i want to downsize a lot, but sentimental feels for old dragons and their lore are keeping me from purging :')
starting small and having restraint from the beginning is one thing, but for the people who retconned or started fresh: how did you do it? my current struggle is trying to figure out if it would be worth it to scatter and re-gene some, or just drop them entirely and slap their lore onto a brand new dragon i like better

I Marie Kondoed my whole lair back in January 2019.
I looked through all my dragons and asked myself which ones sparked joy. Some dragons I had purely for sentimental value and no other reason, so they went. Some dragons I'd had for years but had never written anything resembling lore for them, so they went. Basically I just sold every dragon I didn't want for 6kt on the auction house, made like 200k out of it by the end.

Hey, friendly reminder to drink water, stretch, and take a short break if you can. Stay healthy! Also, don't forget about any chores or tasks you might be putting off.
dunno if i count as a minimalist lair, but the rate at which i gain permas vs permas leaving is definitely snail-like (and my old lair was waay larger), so i'll just comment on how i keep it that way:
the
instant i feel a tiny bit dissatisfied or just bored with a dragon (aka don't vibe with them as much anymore/realize i'm mostly just keeping them around because i
used to like them), they're out. basically 'this no longer sparks joy' mentality bassboosted. sometimes it can get hard to tell what qualifies as 'sparking joy' anymore, but at least that helps keeps numbers down, right?
taking dragons' outfits + familiars off and keeping them that way for a couple days also helps me decide whether i've been keeping around because i like them, or if it's just because i was attached to the sick outfit i made for them.
as for scattering or otherwise repurposing old permas.. maybe you could try throwing them up on the AH for an unreasonable amount just for a couple days. does the idea of them being out there able to be sold intimidate you? if it does, then you should probably keep them. otherwise, they're probably better off leaving if you want to be a minimalist lair.
you can also always keep a google doc or some other record of your old permas if you ever find yourself missing them and want to recreate them or something. i've been doing that for a while and while it is fun to look at my old dragons, i never find myself regretting getting rid of them.
... this got really long, i hope it helps in some way! @

how to downsize
step 1: realize that dragons are replacable. unless they hold absolute sentimental value
step 2: purge
step 3: think about which dragons you feel like recreating
step 4: now get a g1
that is how you downsize, by yours truly

“Small” lair here.
(9 actual lore dragons, rest being for a challenge or fodderbreeders)
Here’s a few things I do.
- I don’t take on more than one project at a time. Pretty g1 for a good price? TOO BAD. You’re still saving up for that veined gene for that one lore dragon, remember?
(The only excuse for this would be a dream dragon)
- Try to buy dragons only for lore purposes. Furthermore, don’t buy another until you’ve finished that lore! (Ok the last part might not be true but shhh)
- Be poor. Literally always be poor. Can’t buy dragons if you’re poor, huh?
