So I was in the shower last night thinking "gee, our eggs sure look like plaguemomma's pimples!" And then immediately thought what if they were.
All the eggs, excepting maybe lightning, look like they could be parts of the deities. Like, if some rubble falls off earthshaker's feet, what if the rocks aren't just rocks but earth eggs? What if when shadowbinder's goop dries, it swirls and soldifies into the shells of shadow eggs? What if the lightweaver's glowing baubles could fall off and hatch into the babies of the gods? What if plaguemomma's back isn't riddled with acne, but rather is a hatchery for her closest and nastiest kin, like that one weird frog?
If these were just random eggs that were lost or stolen, mind you, they wouldn't be able to keep their elemental alignment over borders (dragon eggs are laid normal but take in the magic of their surroundings and change), last forever and be able to hatched whenever without incubation, invariably produce dragons aesthetically identical to progens who are incredibly unique and "special" dragons who are born adults, they wouldn't be so rare, they would occasionally hatch imps or with genes or something if they weren't somehow unique, there would be at least one dragon out there they couldn't breed with and SOMEONE would go out looking for them if they were just some random shmoe's eggs. It's quite obvious they're new blood that are formed of some kind of powerful magic, and most, if not all of them, look like they could come from the deities.
Also, who did you think makes our progens? us?

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?
