i am heavily considering pivoting to primarily g1s, and i wanna know why other people start g1 only lairs. im doing it bc im tired of doubles and triples cuz theyre just. too easy? like theyre not nearly as visually interesting. but it's really hard to put together a breeding pair that puts out interesting xyzs before you've gened up the pair.
(if this is also a problem for you why not check out this foresee progeny of scries suggestion i recently bumped haha just kidding unless-) so in lieu of that i'm just gonna start hatching g1s and seeing if i get anything interesting.
is it something similar for you? is it a flex? is it just for the clout? do you have a very specific goal? are you cakeless? i hope you get that triple obs soon if you are.
je suis subbed, please no pingie

I buy fodder price G1s mostly. I like making weird combos work.

Not a G1-only lair, but this. Though I have bought some more expensive (but still not like… EXPENSIVE G1 expensive— just… not fodder price) dragons since, fodder G1s are my roots and they're super fun. People throw away some gorgeous color combos because they're not their style, because there's only one scry that works, because mass hatches take up room that they want back, because they're ugly to anyone not named "mothscale," etc, and the AH's trash is my treasure!
That said, I do just fine with breeding because I regularly end up keeping xyz fodder I bred myself because I think they're pretty. (Not pictured: various others. Please don't feel the need to click the links: I'm using the number of links as indicative of how many I end up keeping, the links are just proof that I didn't keep them just for special eyes or anything! Just random xyz keepers.) Hatchery-level G2+ breeding pairs for color/gene combos are hard and expensive to set up, but accidentally beautiful dragons from exalt fodder breeders are never something I've had to struggle to find. This except with a specific aesthetic. I also really like that you essentially make the dragon yourself, sure you don't get to choose the colours but everything else is completely up to you. [s]I also apparently like watching my gem/treasure counters go down[/s]

This, most of my gen 1s around 10kt in price but I think the most expensive was 50g-75g? I like gening them up so if there original price is expensive, it's probably not for me. I still like keeping pairs and breeding tho :)

My lair is fairly evenly split between G1s and non G1s. I just like making XYZ's work well with treasure genes. It's a fun challenge and makes me use genes that I normally wouldn't use on non-G1 dragons.
For me, it's hard to get attached to a dragon someone else put the work into and I just... have it. One of my dream dragons (I waited for 6 months) I am having a hard time connecting with, even tho its unbred/g1, because the previous owner put the work into geneing it. I like to know I earned the right to call that dragon mine and show it off. Weird, right? But it keeps me busy.
This isnt to say I dont like g2+, I have lots of them! But they're all old and I need to gene them and outfit them. I see so many amazing dragons on the AH but I cant buy them cause I know i'll yeet them in barely a week.

though im not a mono-gen1 lair because I still have some kids I have attachment to from before i changed, I generally aim for fodder-priced gen1s as well.
I of course have exceptions- I'm a sucker for xxys in the green/brown range, especially ones with a dark py/mor accent with a pretty stained coloration. those I pay big bucks for.
also dragons that are doubles in general, or ones I just have found I fell in love with (but with a hefty price tag.)
If getting into gen1s I reccomend you practice saving first. I prefer having 20kg on hand at all times. I recently bought an 8kg dragon and i regret it, because now I'm below 10kg... im in pain ;

I’m like.. half oldie lair/half G1 lair with a few holdovers from my newbie days? lol
G1s are just fun! I’ve stumbled across rare color combos that just WORK, and putting in the time/effort to bring their beauty to reality feels rewarding to me. Sure double/primal G1s are a flex, but I’m just vibin with my pretty XYZs

I'm not a full g1 only bc like users above im still sentimental but from now on any dragon im gonna get will be a g1. non-g1's are just too boring now. too easy if that makes sense? only exceptions to that will be old dragons and imps :D
