A snapper transforms into a tundra and her memories start to slip away. New memories are interwoven with scents, but memories from her past form and are vanishing. She knows that eventually she will no longer even recall what it is she's forgotten.

A pearlcatcher changing into a guardian resolves to take his pearl as his charge and treasure it in a new way. But over time, he feels his attachment to it fading, and when he finds his true charge he sets the pearl on a shelf among other mementos.

A guardian who has lost their charge cannot face their shame and transforms themself into a mirror. Maybe one day they will be able to outrun their failure.

A coatl becomes a fae, and suddenly the speech of his fellows becomes an incomprehensible drone. He doesn't regret his decision, but now unable to communicate with his family he feels unmoored.

A banescale changes into a gaoler, going from no arms to four. It takes some getting used to and sometimes they miss flying, but the sheer joy of all those hands is priceless. They become known for their love of hugs.

A fae's transformation into a pearlcatcher goes smoothly, until she feels a heavy weight settle in her stomach. Oh no, she thinks as the hard shape forces its way up her throat, making her cough and gag. I forgot about the pearl.

Anyway, the existence of breed changes in-universe is wild. Do you think there's breed dysphoria? What's a breed change like? Are there any social connotations?

A guardian wife becomes a fae.
Time with her husband becomes incredibly dangerous.

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?

The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.

Hm, I have a Skydancer who hated his short coat and envied long fur breeds. Changing to a Tundra and later a Gaoler(with wintercoat) because it was his desire to be the furriest thing ever.

Other than Baldwin it's been stated that breed changes are instantaneous.

I can see breed changing in combination with color changing to be seen with some suspicion. Like you're trying to hide from someone. Or seen with displeasure in clans with particular roles if you change to something that is no longer fit for the task.

That's gotta be the roughest part of transformation into a pearlcatcher.

A Wildclaw that turns into a Fae and realizes they can't fight for their friends anymore

A Bogsneak that turns into a Skydancer and gets immediate sensory overload

A Ridgeback that turns into a Guardian but still never wants anything to do with the water

A Spiral that turns into a Nocturne and gets both the hyperactivity and mimicry

I dabbled in this idea a bit with my girl Elita: She used to be a ridgeback that never really felt settled in her own skin, but she's been a fae for a majority of her life now. She speaks fluent draconic with proper inflections since she wasn't born fae, which is the thing that usually gives people an idea that something's a bit different there. She was worried what her mate would think (he's a nocturne), since it would be a big change in their relationship, but he never cared. As long as she's still Elita, and she still wants them to be together, that's good enough for him.

"But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

This I did."

the first one is literally just me in my daily life by default. except it only seems to affect things that are emotionally important to me. so i'm literally not allowed to truly love anything ever because then my stupid brain will make me forget everything about it to the point where i literally don't even know that i've forgotten anything at all much less just how much. and then it's impossible to ever get back, because all of my thoughts and feelings that waay especially theones that only ever existed in my head are entirely products of their times and the only way to reproduce the circumstances of their creation perfectly enough to truly bring them back would be to just straight up reverse time to right before it happened.

I find it funny to think that a dragon that walks on all fours transforms into a Wildclaw, and forgets that they're supposed to be bipedal, so somewhere in Sornieth there's a Wildclaw who occasionally tries to walk on all fours and looks ridiculous for it.

Conversely, a Wildclaw changing into a dragon that only really walks on all fours, the once Wildclaw forgetting, and now you have a Mirror who deeply unsettles everyone they come across because they refuse to use their front legs for walking, and that doesn't look right at all
