TOPIC | Is Dragon Flipping Worth it?
1 2 3
Does dragon flipping make worthwhile profit? I've seen some discussion on it where players have said they've made quite a bit of money, or most of their money, doing this. But I was trying to do the math to figure out exactly how profitable it was and quickly became confused... is it really as profitable as they say it is? Am I just bad at math? Or is there something frequent dragon flippers do to make the dragons worth more?

For example, right now as I type the cheapest baby is 5999 treasure. If you were to buy it, wait for it to grow up, then sell it for the cheapest price an adult is going for at 7476 treasure, you've just wasted a few days for a meager 1,477 profit. If you get lucky and have a nice dragon and instead still the adult for something like 10,000 you still only made 4,001 treasure back, less than the amount of exalting a level 3. If you did this in bulk and say, bought 5 babies for 6,000 each (30,000 total) and sell each as adults for 10,000 (50,000 total if all sell) you only made back 20,000 in profit. Better than nothing but barely more than a 'good' dragon sells in relatively cheap hatcheries (most 'good' but cheap hatchery dragons I've seen go for 15,000).

If you buy a baby at 6,000, wait till its an adult, then train it to be exalted, you will only make a profit at level 4 and it will only be a 750 profit. If you continue to grind, at level 5 it's a 2,250 profit, level 6 a 3,750 profit, level 7 a 5,250 profit, level 8 a 6,750 profit- finally doubling your initial investment in buying the baby.

I made 1510 treasure from a 7 minute puzzle on easy mode, and could make that again if I played twice. I could make pretty much the same amount of profit (or a little more) from 28 minutes of easy-mode jigsaw minigames than flipping a baby dragon by buying at 6,000 and selling at 10,000, or buying at 6,000 and exalting at level 5... so how the heck are people making a decent profit of flipping enough to say they've made most of their treasure from it? :O Heck, I've made more money just by selling 5 adult dragons for 6,000. I made 30,000 treasure that way and the dragon flipper who re-sold them at 10,700 only made 23,500 by re-selling them...

Is there some sort of secret to their success??

the main thing is it's easy profit, and with a large enough lair can be done on a large scale. it's not that each dragon is a large profit -- it's that it adds up quickly.

definitely an imperial dragon - restore hoardsold items.
- maki's festival guide & event calendar.
- uncheck "hoard... while scrolling" to unsticky your hoard.
- buying an apparel slot for a dragon unlocks it for all of your dragons.
Absolutely - especially if you have a big, unused den! I have a fully upgraded den, that's 400 snoring hatchlings. Grab those for <5kt each, stuff them in there and wait. Then flip them for between 6-7kt depending on floor and repeat the process. It might not be a lot per individual dragon, but it's easy money with minimum effort.

if you have a ton of free space in your lair, yes, and if you are lucky you can grab some 1t , 2000t, 3500t hatchlings
if you have a more limited space, say 10-50 fodder training is better
if you have no space i guess you can only do fairgrounds and flip things (apparel, genes, etc)

When the fodder floor rises during dom battles I've seen a few people snipe the fodder that are priced below the floor and then immediately flip them by selling them at or slightly above the floor price. That can definitely add up.

I'd rather just keep the cheap fodder and train/exalt them myself but can't deny that their way is less time/labor intensive...

For me, the trick is knowing the conversion between gems and treasure, and then sniping fodder in one currency and reselling for the other.

For example, if the fodder floor in Treasure is 8kt, and the current conversion rate is 1:1300, sniping fodder at 5g means a profit of roughly 1g per dragon. On a good week where the treasure floor rises, that profit can go up significantly, to where I'm sniping for 6g and selling for nearly 10kt. It adds up.

Yes. I only have a small hibden so far, so I buy hatchlings at 5-7k, level them to ten and exalt, which brings roughly 15k per dragon plus anything I pick up in the coli.

The main thing here is that small stuff adds up. So if you fill your entire hibernal den with hatchlings, and then sell them off as they grow, filling empty space as it clears. You constantly have money coming in. And you do make a profit. The key point here is that it's a low effort profit. You can make more money more quickly through leveling and exalting dragons if you want more money through more effort.

Always keep an eye on dom watch if you have a stake in the fodder market. Which, if you flip fodder, you do. This last big battle, I had about 360 dragons I had bought for 5k and turned around and sold them on wednesday of the battle where sales were around 13-14k. I made close to 6 mil.

Flipping is how I made enough money to expand to 35 slots in my second week of playing. I joined right before lightning's fest last year, and made good use of that dom discount. I was mostly sniping under fodder floor and reselling, but like I said, it made me enough cash to expand my lair before the discount left.
