Since 2016 I've been working on a project to build a family tree. The hypothesis I started with was, "Is every single coatl on flight rising who looks like this:"
"related in some way, either by blood or marriage?"
The "look" is defined very loosely as
Colours
I decided that the only way to find out was to build a giant family tree and try to add every coatl with this 'look' onto it. Today marks a big milestone because the tree is now 10,000 dragons big.
"OP, you have way too much time on your hands"
I ……… yeah, maybe. No regrets tho
The reason I think this project has been as successful as it has been is because since the 'look' is largely focused on XYX gem-gened coatls (gem breed), people would rather breed more of these coatls than buy gene scrolls from scratch, resulting in this dense web of family relations. I can go on the AH, find a hatchling that looks like this, and 97% of the time they're connected to the tree within a few steps. Nowadays it's become rare (and exciting) for me to find coatls with the look who don't easily connect to the tree; that's how wide this family tree has become. Furthermore, it's not uncommon for dragons to be distantly related to their spouses, or even themselves, in multiple ways.
If you have a dragon that looks like this, they may already be on the tree. If not, please show me and I'll try to add them in!
Ask me any questions you may have!
(Post I made about this tree back in Sep 2019)
PS: If anyone here is an expert on real-life extended families (eg european royal families) please tell me if there could be similarities to fictional dragon families, I'm very interested

Colours
Primary: Maize-Orca
Secondary: Any
Tertiary: Maize-Orca
Genes
Secondary: Any
Tertiary: Maize-Orca
At least one or two gem genes, but this is the most flexible guideline
Breed
Coatl, but wildclaws, imperials and noctures are also accepted
