So! I really love the way the new genes look. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how it work into my clan lore.
This is with the exception of Frankenstein Monster/ Doll Dragon ideas of course:
Gene implies genetic, so is this fabric mutation inherited? It feels very inorganic.
One idea I had is that the fabric and such itself isn't the gene, but instead the gene is somewhat harmful and skin / hide transplants and modifications are necessary for whatever reason.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I want to have dragons with this gene, but I think way too hard about the science and biology of this game... [emoji=ridgeback tongue size=1]

I... don't really have any sort of answer for you, but I'm curious what biology reason you may have for how firefly is passed down as well. A predisposition to attract fireflies after the dragon hatches? Or (do fireflies have eggs?) are they born with their fireflies...
I just treat most of the genes as skin patterns, so it's not so much as "their skin is made of patchwork fabric" and more just "man that dragon's skin pattern looks really realistic."
(I don't really think that hard about dragon science lol)

Hmm. Plushie dragons use plushie magic with a normal dragon in hopes of having a half plushie half dragon hybrid. But oh cool it’s full one or the other. ???

I'm divided on lore ideas for it. On one hand I have lots of witches & sorcerers in my clan and I think it would be cool to have them begin creating dragons stitched together with fabric and then imbued with a soul using magic. This could then become genetic - maybe those dragons are able to breed and the gene is carried on that way. On the other hand I'm considering the idea that they're an organic "patch", kind of like a blood clot or scar tissue, that then forms in specific patterns. I love your idea of the gene itself being something that needs to be covered by the patches - like open wounds or infection or something (would make for good plague lore).
With autumn on the horizon, Baldwin and his alchemists are feeling the need to be cozy; literally! Alchemists levels 14 and above can learn the pattern to create a gene scroll to transmute your dragon a cozy patchwork hide.

To me it seems through alchemy the actual skin/scales of the original dragon turn into fabric, but for the kids they're just born like that.

I mean if you can have tiny bugs forever follow you around, be made of literal stars, breath fire and many other elements, change your entire biology from something as big as a whale to a being that can perch stop a human's head, and make life from throwing some slime into a cauldron I think you can have fabric skin lol.

if you just have patchwork as a gene, they can be prosthetic wings!

It's the draconic version of vitiligo (different presentation/gene interaction than mosaic & breakup). Instead of patches of absence of color it's a patchwork of recessive, hybrid and alchemy-influenced pigments and scale patterns.
