TOPIC | gene pairs where you only like one gene?
1 2
Gene pairs as in iri/shim, tiger/stripes, python/morph etc.

I find that in many of these I like one half of the pair but not so much the other, and I generally prefer dragons with 'non-matching' primary and secondary genes

Examples
- I'm addicted to pinstripe but not a fan of the patterns in trail
- Striation is really cool but tapir is too messy for my tastes
- I like breakup, but mosaic looks off to me
- For most of the gem genes I only like the secondary. I think it might be that most of them are unnatural looking and my mind has an easier time accepting that the dragon's wings are made out of crystal/metal/stars than its body

Of course its all subjective and I'm sure there are people with the opposite opinions, so I'm curious. Do you have a gene pair where you like one gene but not the other? Do you prefer 'matching' primary and secondary genes or 'different' ones?

The Bee gene is all right, but cannot say the same about the Wasp gene.

Vipera good, Hypnotic sucks.

Definitely the one that comes to mind is Wasp/Bee. I love Bee, and while I don't hate Wasp I don't like it much and very rarely even consider using it.

I like Seraph, particularly on feathery breeds where it's a nice uncluttered step up from basic, but I don't particularly like Cherub on anything except maybe Spirals (and I prefer Clown to do that job in a lot of cases on Spirals).

I like Alloy more than Metallic but I think that's more about the structures they're on than the actual gene design itself. It's the same effect but I like it more on the flat sections of wings than the muscle shapes of the primary.

Otherwise I mostly like the paired genes to a similiar extent I think. Some like Vip/Hyp and Lion/Nox have quite different applications as a primary or secondary but I do like both to a similar extent in the right place.

In terms of on individual dragons I tend to go for 'non-matched' Primary/Secondary combinations except for breeding pairs or Basic/Basic.

I really like Vipera but have yet to be totally sold on Hypnotic.

[/quote] Ohh actually I've never thought about it this way but this describes my thoughts about metallic/alloy pretty well. And for the people talking about hypnotic, I know that hypnotic is a no for many people but I actually like both hypnotic and vipera [emoji=spiral winking size=1]

Like Jaguar, do not like Rosette. Also like Noxtide, but do not like Lionfish.

I'm the opposite from people so far - I really like Hypnotic, but Vipera doesn't do it for me.

Also I love Petals but I really don't like Butterfly, I like Clown but not Eyespots (I guess I just don't like butterfly-themed wings, huh?), I like Seraph but not Cherub. Pinstripe's okay but Trail is fantastic.
