I keep hearing this idea that at some point FR clarified what the plague aesthetic was. What does this mean? What was thought before and what does the current plague flight look like?

@kschaef
Current aesthetic for me is rot/disease/survival, idk what it was before though.

Idk about the actual aesthetic but it has been clearly identified that Plague isn't death or the opposite of life/nature as many people seem to think. Both plague and nature are life flights. Just growth vs survival.

Yup! Plague is life and survival, not death and undead.
Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper (Plague and Nature) are two sides of the same coin, with the same goal: Life and survival. It's their method that differs.

Bones. As many bones as possible. Preferably painted, or covered in the last scraps of mummified flesh still clinging on like moss, but any bones will do. Raw meat. Also, pustules. And stealing the weapons (and teeth, if possible) of your enemies.
My headcanon for the bit of the Scarred Wasteland near the Tangled Wood and Sea of One Thousand Currents is heavily based off the swamps and pine forest of the southeastern United States, so twisted pine trees in places they logically shouldn't be, rotting shacks, and murky water is part of my personal Pleg Aesthetic (tm) too.
Insects, such as centipedes and botflies that scavenge carcasses are part of many people's Plague Aesthetics too, even if they don't post about it onsite for obvious reasons.

""I feel I should apologize for what's happened here... some of my employees took things too far."
The people above are correct but IIRC there was also a point at which the staff had to ask people to tone down the gore in their accent submissions for Plague's fest because the stuff people were submitting was getting pretty disturbing for a kids site.

Previously: red and bones
Now: pustles and green and zombos accepted. also bones. (see gem scene with lots of bones. beautiful, but not red)
(red-esque is used by claiming any and all bloody bandages - because nothing else adds that - and UMAs)

its supposed to be decay and disease but FR's rules seem kind of gray around the entire flight aesthetic.
I wish there was some, Visual boundaries with these things set by the staff, like for example between bloody bandages and "too much" blood:
maybe a rule like, "blood no brighter than Flight rising red" would be reasonable.( it has about the same brightness as Bloody bandages apparel) and maybe show a block color image, scale of allowed and disallowed red spectrum.
Theres struggle for everyone on all sides when it comes to plague,
Its hard for the people to get enough plague aesthetic, or be excited for it, without going too far for whats allowed on the site.
it must be hard for people who are excited for and fans of the aesthetic.
"Death leveraged the excess energy in another way. Where nature could not mend, decay took its place. Putrid film soaked and crept across the ground, enveloping everything in its path. Whole structures creaked and fell under the weight of the empowered rot that now infected them.
This contagion continued its wave of domination, scouring every corpse and every bit of food. Weaker plants and bodies of water fell sick with filth, and the cycle intensified with each new fallen organism. A runaway viral infection coursed through the veins of the world.
This scourge wrapped around the fallen, ripping away flesh and tearing marrow into a blighted tornado of destruction. Within time, the contamination had taken on a ghastly shape. It haunted the land in the form of a spectral drake, gnarled with veins, pustules and sharpened bone. This harbinger -the Plaguebringer- tested the worth of every sign of regrowth as she scoured over the surface of the realm, leaving behind a frightening scarred wasteland."
