I did a silly thing this morning and purchased an Ancient gene rather than its Modern counterpart by mistake and it made me realize that I sort of still forget Ancients exist? I don't currently own any and when I do, they're for a project so I swap them to a Modern, but I like them very much in their own right!
Are they still new to you? Do you collect them, if so how many, why, and what is your favorite thing to use them for? If not, how come? Is there a specific flight you can't wait to see next?

They're still kinda new in that way that bogs were new for years, but I don't forget they exist. I love the line breaking terts, gaolers have my favorite lineart of all the breeds and banescales have some of my favorite genes and as I rarely dress my dragons I have no problem acquiring a lot of them.
About 15% of my permanent lair is ancient breeds, and I have a lot of projects that would involve raising that number.
I don't have a specific flight that I want to see next, but I am very excited for the gem breed to come out. Like those bug wings, and I am interested in how they're going to color that hair with the various genes. I'm hoping they do something more interesting then gaoler manes. I love gaolers, but a lot of their secondaries could be more exciting.

I still think of them as new when I see them, and then remember that banes are like a year old already.
I sort of collect G1 banescales (I have nine so far, will definitely get more) and keep them in my hibden for lore (and food) reasons. I really like ancients quite a bit, and I really want a cool water or arcane breed.
to me they are new, but for some reason any release of anything that's had an impression on me, my brain still considers new :D
.... such as the ripple gene, which felt like the first new gene in a year (and may have actually been but I don't feel like looking it up)

I keep forgetting that they exist despite the fact that like 1/3 of my fodder are ancients. They are pretty neat though! I really wish the staff would reeeaallly push the "silhouette breaking' advantage Ancients have way more though, otherwise Ancients are dragons I can't slap apparel onto and that is half the fun to me on this site. A dragon with two heads or something would be really great.
Kind of hoping one day "Emperors" will become an ancient since they are legit cool and would be great at breaking silhouettes lol

I feel like they haven't fully settled into my brain as a normal part of the site because I haven't had the chance to get any for self-imposed challenge reasons. Soon, though!
(Fun fact: Once, while looking at a coli captcha, I thought, "Oh! That's a cool-looking Banescale!" and then proceeded to keep looking for the dragon. Like, no, brain. That is the dragon. What are you doing.)

They're not new to me because I started playing pretty late, but I DO forever get a small heartattack when I see a gene listed for very low on the AH - and then see it's an ancient gene. Every. Single. Time.

i can't wrap my head around them, i just never see em since i can't dress them and i never exalt

Ancients are just like any other dragon, to me.
I always make sure to look for the correct Ancient Breed icon in the top corner of gene scrolls before I purchase. (Or, lack of icon if I'm trying to buy a Modern gene)
I joined after the last Ancient release, so they're kind of just like other dragons to me.
My answer may change if when this new one comes out.
