TOPIC | Why do you value unbred dragons?
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
I noticed this thing a short while back (since I started lurking the forums more) and I don't really get it. It's even more discussed with g1s.

I do understand, why people don't like unnamed offspring. It bothers me, too. It doesn't look nice on the page and I believe that every dragon deserves a name, but...

... why not breed them at all? Breeding is a huge part of this game, so why would you restrain yourself like this?

Somebody, please, explain.

I'm personally somewhat in the middle, so I can't speak for anyone else. Sometimes it's the value of the dragon. Unbred G1's tend to be worth a lot more than a bred one. Wildclaws especially tend to be very popular unbred G1 breeds, & I refuse to breed mine.

However, I do have G1 dragons that I enjoy having multi-gens of. Some of my Veilspun are this way & a Spiral pair I have are this way too. I like to see how far those generations will go, though I do keep at least one hatchling myself to continue those generations ( sometimes one or two will go to my boyfriend as well ).

For my Veilspun pair, I'm up to a 3rd gen now, & I'm really happy with how they're turning out! I just think generations are neat, & tracking those generations are neat.

But that might be because my mom loves genealogy, lol.

Like I said tho, it's personal preference & I can't speak for everyone! Some just like not seeing any offspring, some like the profit benefit from it, some just don't wanna breed their dragons.

I think it looks cleaner/nicer

I only have 2 pairs in my permas that I actually breed and if I want to start a breeding project I buy new dragons which I exalt after the projects completion

Could be a few reasons:
1. They think it looks messy
2. Don't have the time to breed
3. Lorewise don't want the dragon to breed (mostly this for me)
4. (Usually in gen 1s) It decreases there values to other players (especially if heavily breed)

Any hatchlings my dragons would have would be canon in my lore. So, since none of my dragons are meant to have kids yet (with the exception of some with adopted kids), I don't breed them. Though I wouldn't be opposed to making breeding pairs... If I wasn't constantly strapped for lair space.

Also, especially if you have a G1, why give a dragon some unnecessary connection to a dragon that's probably either exalted or not in your lair? Unless a dragon is part of a consistent breeding pair/pairs, just randomly breeding dragons doesn't seem appealing to me. It'd feel messy for me.

It's a personal thing, I don't like reproduction, plus no offspring will be there to mess around with my aesthetics or lore (although I very rarely even consider anything stat-wise as an actual lore thing.) BUT, I also really like that nice clean double none status. That's about it.

See, the thing about this site is that it gives you freedom. It is not restricting when it comes to how to play the game which is wonderful for so many different people with many different play styles. I don't breed unless I'm getting that Imperial breeding project.

It's simple for me. I don't like unnamed or poorly named offspring and if the dragon is unbred it has a zero percent chance of having either.

I make acceptions for dragons whose rariety means they are unlikely to be found again in any state, be it bred or unbred. Primal eyes, triple g1s excetera.

Personally I don't care at all.
The only reason why I would not breed some dragons is if they're valuable and I might want to sell them to someone who cares about such stuff later on.
Then again... usually I forget about that and end up breeding my Primals anyway...

I like to have the clean state on my dragons.

Thanks for all the answers! Now I understand it better.

So it seems the main reason are:
- you want to sell it in the future to people, who care about it - which means you don't have to care about it at all
- lore reasons - you don't want to deal with the extended family or it doesn't feel right for the particular dragon
- aesthetics of the page/profile - which seems to be the case for many people.

Do you think the third reason could be made less frequent with further changes of the profile page design? For example if the offspring list could be hidden somehow?

I'm not saying, it's a bad reason by any means. It just surprises me a bit, how many people mentioned it (I asked elsewhere too). Because it's not about the breeding itself, but more about the looks of the profile page.
