Flight Rising Discussion

Discuss everything and anything Flight Rising.
TOPIC | Other Flight Elements
1 2 3
What if there were more than the 11 Flight elements we already have? I was thinking about it, but to be honest, I can't really think of any other elements that would make very much sense, since several of the elements already cover a wide range of concepts. For example, Earth would cover things like rocks, mud, sand, and gemstones, so an element like "Crystal" (as much as I would love it) wouldn't make any sense.

Another one that you couldn't do is something like "Ghost", since that feels a little too abstract, but besides that, Shadow probably covers all bases regarding any powers, abilities, or concepts a "Ghost" element would cover.

I thought about "Metal" as an element, but again, that would probably be covered in Earth.

One thing I did think though was that "Toxin" would be a better alternative to "Plague", since honestly, besides being my least favourite element and one that I refuse to have any dragons of in my lair, Plague itself doesn't make as much thematic sense to me when compared to the rest of the elements. It feels too vague. I understand that they needed an element to represent red eyes, but I really despise Plague, since I can't look at or watch anything gore or body horror related, and besides that, it's just really disgusting and creepy. The recent lore comment about them not cleaning wounds is also horrifying.

So I was thinking about how "Toxin" would be a better alternative, because then you could do away with the gore, body horror, and rotting aspects of Plague, but still have a "dangerous" and "survival of the fittest" type of element that has things in it that can make you sick. Plague already has an association with mushrooms, so I imagine a "Toxin" element would have heavy association with mushrooms, poisonous plants, toxic animals, and normally uninhabitable areas that are filled with these things, like toxic spores in the air, acidic water, and poisonous fruits. Think the poisonous jungle from the Studio Ghibli film "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", where it's basically toxic to breathe the air in there, but many creatures flourish.

The element "Toxin" could even still be a counterpart to Nature, since Nature is about nurturing and succeeding, while "Toxin" would be about adapting and becoming immune to poisonous, toxic, and acidic stuff. The eye colour could still even be red, as most animals and plants in the real world that are bright red indicates that they are toxic or poisonous, so you will stay away.

As for a "Toxin" dragon Deity, she would no longer resemble a horrific rotting corpse with exposed tissue, instead she would have sharp edges, spines, and bright red scales to reflect her element. I haven't read all of Flight Rising's lore yet, so I don't know the exact relationship between the Plaguebringer and the Gladekeeper, but I doubt the story would change very much.

No disrespect to anybody who chose Plague, by the way. I just personally really don't like the element in concept, look, or idea at all.

What do you guys think? I would love to hear your feedback on my idea, and maybe more discussion on it, as well as ideas anybody has for another element! I think it would be fun.

I still think my thread is on topic, and my "Toxin" element idea can't really be discussed as its own thread. I think it fits a topic of "new elements" since it is new. Besides that, as I said in my post, I really despise Plague, and just wanted to share my idea. I didn't know any other way to share it besides in a thread about new elements. Again, no disrespect to players who chose Plague, and I didn't mean to offend anybody, I just had this idea and really wanted to share it and see what other players think, since I know a lot of people dislike Plague and ignore it, just like me.

Ow the pain from this.

Anyway in regards to a "Toxin" element, it feels like that is what Plague & Nature would become if they were to ever be fully merged cursed idea but hey, it makes sense
But you'd still have the rotting/corrosive and gorey/disease ridden themes. Just that it'd be more green and less red/brown most likely.

The first thing that comes to mind when reading toxin is legit poisons that melt the body so that the insides can be eaten (you know, how spiders eat), corrosive substances that burn a hole through you and blisters/rashes breaking out due to allergic reactions so uh..yeah. It'd just be a greener worse version of our flight really.

I also can see how it would mostly just seem like a "poisonous" version of Nature as opposed to its own element, but I still think it could have been done if they had chosen something like this. I am hoping to hear ideas for other types of elements as well, though. I don't want this thread to become drama or anything, I just wanted to hear what other players thought of my idea, and then hear their own ideas as well. I had been thinking of how pretty and cool a "Crystal" element would be but it just doesn't make sense, since all concepts, abilities, and ideas of a "Crystal" element are covered in Earth and Arcane, and even a little bit in Ice. Another one I had was "Mist", since we have the other two forms that water takes, liquid and solid, theoretically a gaseous "Mist" element could work, too.

I do want to point out that Nature's battlestone ability is envenom and mentions poison in the tooltip, which implies toxin is already covered by Nature (which makes sense, as natural toxins in animals and plants). [item=envenom]

It seems like most elements already cover a wide variety of concepts, so there really isn't any way new elements could be added because it wouldn't make any sense.

I've always thought of toxins as a naturally occurring thing, like something Nature would have, but it could likely apply to Plague too. Toxin is a very vague term. Animals and plants can be toxic, whether in bloom or in decay. I see Nature as the start of life, and Plague as the, say, extant form of it. Toxins isn't quite either. It could be present in both, but on it's own it doesn't feel like it could replace any of them. Most elemental flights have pairs, with Arcane having none. If there were to be a new flight, I'd imagine it being the opposite of Arcane, but what is the opposite of magic? Neutral? That's not quite an element.

Shade flight I kid, I kid!

Time, Luck or Sound are ones I've seen suggested? There's even a whole 'luck flight' thread although I think that's something to do with a specific user...

on second thought, those sound like fake pokemon types
