TOPIC | Allow special characters for usernames?
Hey, I was currently testing out some options, and I was curious why FR doesn't allow non-alphanumeric characters for usernames? Is there a practical reason, like it messing with search results? I'm not sure how easy/difficult such a thing might be, or what the reasoning was to begin with.

Personally, I'd love to have a dash or period in my username. There's one I've been considering, but because there'd be a lot of the same letter in succession, it's a bit strange to read without a break.

I'm guessing for search purposes? I don't know many petsites that allow dashes or periods unfortunately!

I rent nests through the nest network.
The issue isn't a technical one, from a code standpoint a string's a string regardless of what characters are in it. It takes more work to limit things then it does to allow whatever. Emoji can be tricky, and spaces would cause problems in, say, pinging people in the forms, but the rest of your normal keyboard characters are all easy to handle.

I've always assumed it's to make it more difficult to get around the profanity filter. Not how I would personally handle that but it's not like it hugely limits the usability of the site either.
