So, while I was coming up with lore for my girl Ukhai, who is a children's book author who wrote the ever-popular and ever-horrifying [i]Fear Frog and Terror Toad are Comrades[/i], I was wondering...what is the state of juvenile literature in Sorneith?
We know they have an equivalent of Scary Stories to tell in the Dark [item=Scary Storybook], and we know they have fables [item=Battered Book of Fables], and we know that young dragons have the kind of journals we all wanted (or at least, I did) in elementary and middle school [item=Owlcat Journal].
Historically, there wasn't really a genre for Children's Literature, which is kinda recent, at least as an industry, and most works for children were meant to instruct and impart moral and religious lessons, but in Sorneith some of the books are also eldritch tomes of forgotten lore...are there hatchling versions of those?

Scary Storybook
Trinkets
The foreword indicates that these are best told in the dark. The black and white illustrations throughout are crude, sketchy, and haunting. Don't read the one about the neck ribbon.

Battered Book of Fables
Dragonmade
The terrible thing is that all your favorite characters die in the end. (Special thanks XenonZerrow.)

Owlcat Journal
Trinkets
Embossed with a colorful owlcat, this journal is filled with the hopes, dreams, and cookie recipes of a young dragon.

SWAMP BIOME PLAGUE 4 LYFE, BABEY!!!
You know what, absolutely, baby's first eldritch tome is now canon in my lore and my dragon who was raised in an eldritch library tore out and ate the pages of her copy of Cthulu And Friends. Just imagine the illustrations they could have! Cute little blood ritual diagrams, silly rhyming invocations that make GREAT jump rope chants, a fun way to introduce your hatchlings to forbidden lore all around :)

Be kind to old people and animals, don't go into the dark forest alone at night, and mean dragons always get their comeuppance in a most brutal fashion.

Hey, friendly reminder to drink water, stretch, and take a short break if you can. Stay healthy! Also, don't forget about any chores or tasks you might be putting off.
"Long ago, there was a dragon who wanted a friend.
he searched far and wide, high and low, east to west even
and he was still alone."
"One day, he cried out "if only i could have a single friend, we would never part!"
the Sun, taking pity on the poor drake, fashioned another dragon out of Her Light to keep him company. Happily, the two dragons played many games together for many years."
"But the Sun grew resentful, for the young drake had never thanked Her for Her efforts. So while the two dragons were sleeping one day, she cast a curse upon them. Their bodies became one, and until they righted their wrong, they will forever wander the world as a cursed abomination."
- a light flight fairytale about not thanking others, and warning of the dangers of befriending another imperial. (yes i had to make it dark, all fairytales are.)

Tales of dubious validity. Hatchlings can't seem to get enough of them.

There’s this too!
There are nesttime stories, mentioned in the Shadow's bounty of the elements. We know at least one of these warned shadow hatchlings about the veilspun

Makes me wonder if the other flights' ancients also appear in their own nest-time stories...
Ice flight dragons to their hatchlings: You better be good, or the Gaolers will come and take you to the fortress of ends and freeze you in an ice block forever...

If this isn't an IRL book, then I sort of want to write it. If it is, drop reccs.

Something else I wonder about is the tone of children's literature in Sorneith. Children's lit in the 1920s was still fairly moralizing in tone (sometimes) , as I understand it, but they also had some comics, adventure novels, and detective literature.
