Hmm, I haven't kept a record, but I have around 160 G1s all in various stages of completion and expenses... so I'm sure a total cost can be roughly estimated... but I'm not sure I want to know. XD

Imagination is the reality of our dreamscape.
haha... a lot
my lair isn't very big I have ~30 G1s, but lots of gem breed and genes will rack up the cost quickly
When I first started out I bought partly/fully gened g1s for a lot cheaper and I still have those bargain bin babies so it's up to you.

The trick is to not add it up or you'll be really depressed. We definitely don't want to know what we've spent so far :D

You could always do one at a time until you build up a nice little collection. Your wallet might be a bit happier with that :D

It's a lot, but I've spend hundreds of gems or hundreds of thousands of treasure on non-g1s before switching so really it's not that different and might actually be less overall in terms of wasted money.
Since before I might impulse buy a dragon for 50-300kt and be bored with them in a few months (and then repeat that 200 other times) but it takes more effort with g1s. You have to put work in coming up with scries and saving for scrolls.
By the time I've got what they need, I'm sure I want that dragon enough to apply the scrolls and that effort makes them more interesting for me than one that pops into my lair already complete.

Occasionally I'll pick up gened g1s, but usually only if they're really cheap, because I seldom want all the genes they'd come with and I don't want to pay extra for ones I'll overwrite.

If you're thinking about trying g1s, go for it! Find one you're really excited about and start working on getting scrolls (and figuring out outfits or lore or whatever you like to do.) If you wait to apply the scrolls til you have everything you need, then if you're not having fun before you finish everything you can always change your mind and sell the scrolls. That way you have an out if you decide it's too much trouble and you aren't enjoying it, and you won't lose too much money.

Let me see, just counting breed change scrolls for my Veils is 9,000 gems, then I spent 2,000g for a coatl scroll, 4,250 for the gem genes on my Veils. Spent around 3kg on my other coatl, 1000g on a pre-gened Skydancer, another 2.5kg for my other coatl, 1200 for a glimmer gene. Another 1000g for a Veilspun (traded him for a dragon I purchased for 1000g). 450g on a stonewash double.

That's 24,400 gems, not counting most of the purchase prices, treasure or Baldwin genes, and the insane amount of apparel.

However, this has been over a couple of years, and I made about a third of that from this past NotN. I don't coli otherwise, and get most of my cash from selling fest items, and Baldwin stuff. It's definitely worth buying pregened dragons because you can find double gem gened ones, or even Wildclaws for less than half the price of their genes.

I have 27 G1 projects at the moment and it will cost me around 60Kg to gene them. They're all triple basic but I'll be super happy once they're all finished ^^

9 times out of 10 you'll buy a dragon triple basic or want to change its genes.

To be a G1 lair is to be swathed in projects and I don't think any of us want to know the cost LOL
