I've decided to start exalting fodder, is there anything that can help me get more currency out of it? I plan on leveling them to level 4-5, but if I do it higher, will it have more benefits? What do I do if someone tells me not to exalt a dragon?

level 4 is a bit low to make much profit off of, especially if you're buying adult dragons for it. a fair number of people train to 6 or 7 instead for more profit per dragon but there's not a huge benefit to doing so unless fodder prices are pretty high

once you buy a dragon it is yours to do what you want with it, so nobody can force you to keep/sell back a dragon that you would otherwise exalt. some people offer to sell the dragon back (sometimes at a higher price) but it's completely up to you since at that point you own that dragon

You are allowed to exalt whatever you like. What people tell you has no bearing at all.

As for exalting itself, you kinda find a sweet spot. If fodder is pricey, it can be better to train higher, so you don't have to buy as many. it's personal what you prefer. Me, I like quantity. 4-5 is fast, 6-8 feels tedious. During the seasonal microholidays higher is easier, so then I go a bit higher.

The standard level for exhalting is 8~ some big brain once said that this was the most time + reward effective magic number, so that is the level I always exhalt at unless a mini holiday comes and then I level my fodder up to 10.

Basically if you have problem with Coliseum mechanics and trainer builds I'd say read through the many helpful guides that already exist. It is a matter of trial and error to find which one suits you best. If you would rather have two levellers to train 1 dragon at a time or just one and push 2 simultaneously~ You must seek what feels best and is efficient enough for you.

A good rule of thumb as an exhalting lair is to give instructions in your profile as to where your fodder dragons are and what can be done to rescue them, if you are willing to allow that at all.

Most lairs are willing to sell unlevelled fodder dragons for the average fodder price listed in the AH at the moment. Some would agree to sell already levelled dragons but most players like myself aren't willing to part with them once you have spent a few minutes at the Coli with em~ As long as you state that in your profile you can consider yourself free of the moral obligation of answering rescue attempts, tho you can if you want, but there are no rules forbidding you from exhalting any given dragon that you purchased for any given sum of treasure or gems.

Here's an exalt payout chart that might help you make decisions about what level to train fodder to! https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/746775

Personally, I train to seven, but if I'm also grinding for festivals (like rn) I'll go to eight.

Don't ever feel obligated to do anything with a dragon that is now yours - once the dragon leaves their lair, it no longer belongs to them. Attempting to dictate what another player does with a dragon that isn't theirs is against TOS - of course, it's in good taste to let people know youre an exalting lair, but if people message you, you're well within your right to say no or request compensation :)

Exalting dragons can be a great way to make profit (both from the dragon and from the item drops you'll get from the Coliseum). I would personally recommend that you exalt at any level from 6-9 and buying fodder when it's cheap (or even buying cheap fodder babies and letting them age up before leveling).

I have always used this exalt payout sheet to see what's the most profitable!

If someone tells you not to exalt a dragon... that is technically against the rules. Once you buy a dragon you officially own it and can do what you like with it. I personally let people buy back their dragons if it was a mistake listing and if they catch me in time before I send it off to the Icewarden, but you can do whatever you wish!

I exalt at 7, and I'm considering switching to 6.

This guide might be helpful: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/1172743 It has the optimal exalt level based on how much you paid for your fodder.

If we're just exalting dragons from the AH for profit we go to level 6. 7+ seems to take so much longer, we'd rather go through more dragons at a slightly lower payout :D

Sylvandr has a really great spreadsheet for finding the best level to exalt at based on how long it takes you to level + how much you pay per dragon: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/1172743

I've found that 6 tends to be the best for me if I'm buying adults from the AH and training using the classic Kelp Beds 2-trainer build, but I believe that with the Mire Flyer and other builds it can be much more efficient to train to lower levels.

Echoing what everyone else is saying regarding people telling you not to exalt, I generally offer to let people buy back their dragons at the price they sold it for, and exalt it anyways if they don't
