What genes do you think are underrated or overrated? Why?

Overrated:
Stained - I just don't get it. I rarely like how it looks, personally. Don't know why it's so popular.
Jaguar/Rosette - Just not a huge fan. I tend to find animal print a bit tacky.

Underrated:
Jupiter/Saturn - One of my favourite genes. I'm not sure why it's so widely hated. I love how it looks!
Vipera/Hypnotic - I like how both of these genes look! I wouldn't call them my favourite but I do think they're a lot more hated than they should be.
Basic Tertiary - I see people slapping firefly or spines on their dragons just so their tertiary isn't basic, but effectively hidden anyways. Seriously, what's the point? There's nothing wrong with a basic tertiary, especially if it's a G1 you don't plan to breed. A lot of primary and secondary genes are quite busy anyways so it makes sense not to have a tert sometimes.

Starmap and especially the combination of starcon is very overrated imo. The stars pattern is nice when it's a secondary but as a primary taking up most of the body it's... very overwhelming. Difficult to tell what's really going on with the dragon.

Tiger and Peacock are super underrated. Tiger is perfect when you just want to keep a dragon simple, and Peacock is perfect on G1s that play around a lot with accent colors. It's so nice seeing a tertiary that doesn't have to be hidden.

Overrated? Imo, pretty much any gem gene. They look nice, sure, but Marbled can beat Butterfly easily, and if you want to use accent colors, Baldwin's where it's at

@PaintmasterSheo I completely agree! Star/Con together can look a bit overwhelming! I love Constellation by itself, but Starmap gets very busy especially on dragons with a lot of body area in their artwork. I originally planned to gene this guy with Star/Con but I decided to save money by doing Swirl primary instead, since the colour actually worked amazingly with the wings. I think I like it quite a bit better too!

@Lasagnagsag

I agree, those genes are awesome and are really fun to play with to see all the accent colours.

@jordanosphere

I love peacock too! I wish there were more modern terts with hidden accent colours. And big agree on gem genes being overrated - I love me some good treasure/Baldwin's genes. I love dragons with earthy vibes, and prefer the matte look of treasure genes vs. the "shiny"-ness of gem genes. (Seriously, 5/6 of the gem primary/secondary genes look so shiny... what's up with that?)

Overrated: Not to yuck any yums but Star/Con is... ugly. It's so flat and shapeless it looks like someone just learned how to copy-paste a galaxy texture onto a dragon & called it a day. There's some colours it's redeemable on but to me it's in the same tier as Smirch: utterly wretched 99% of the time, pretty okay the other 1%.

Underrated: Nobody remembers poor Rip/Current. But I do. And I cherish how it can often subtly lighten or alter a colour it's applied to. Great gene. Has very interesting interactions with Stained. Ripple also affects the underbelly so it's almost like two genes in one. 10/10

contour is so good and excellent

petals isnt the most liked gene in the community but its overrated anyways because its THAT bad and flat

ragged and tear look bad together

i firmly believe in clown/eyespot and piebald/paint supremacy

stained can look good, but most of the time it really washes the colors out
