suggestions is the scariest and least welcoming forum, tbh. i get why some ideas are bad, but just seeing harsh replies on completely unrelated suggestions makes me feel like most ideas i think would be helpful or neat just wouldn't be. does anyone else get this feeling?

I stick by what I say, but read through other views. If someone argues with me, so be it, it's not like it's a slight against me personally if they disagree (even in a "rude" way), and I can just reply back. If they do try to personally insult me, that doesn't bother me (their loss) and I can still just... Reply back.

I've gotten into continual arguments over suggestions with people before, and then been able to be civil and friendly with them elsewhere, or completely agree with them on other suggestions. It's just about not taking someone's tone personally, especially because I know I, personally, can come off as abrasive even in really neutral situations.

In my experience, most of the suggestions that reach such huge levels of front-page presence and arguments are suggestions that would alter or revamp existing site features, or which are almost universally considered "bad," so it makes the whole forum come off as very combatative and dramatic. Very lukewarm or inconsequential/simple QoL suggestions get ignored, usually with just a few positive responses before the thread fades into obscurity. I don't mind the arguments (except when OP steps in and denounces the suggestion/acknowledges the flaws in it, and people don't read beyond the thread title and just don't let it die...), but I do wish more attention was given to smaller and less controversial things.

I poke my opinions in threads now and then but I've learned not to post my own suggestions as usually my ideas have been suggested to death already.

I almost never stick around in a thread to read if anyone is trying to argue with me. Someone could have quote replied to me a few times and I'd never know.

Some people are really passionate about what they believe. The Suggestions forum, I feel, is just a tar pit of misconstrued intentions. Some people reply succinctly. Others take that as snappishness. It is as both Shakespearean comedies and tragedies go; brought about by miscommunication and rash action.

One day, will these too become but distant memories?
. . .
Yes, in the blink of an eye.

Suggestions forum is flight risings twitter.

A horrible place that is not for the weak of heart. You must hold strong to your opinions there and never let up. If you have an opinion you’re passionate about your probably going to have to fight for it.

Meanwhile I still frequent the suggestions forum mainly because I still believe the 5th anniversary’s eye update was the worst thing to come to the site and I hope to see it changed. Be it rehauled completely or made more accessible than just rng breeding that can take years if you want a certain type.

The Suggestions forum is for discussing and debating the pros and cons of the ideas put forward. Some replies can be pretty blunt, but it's best to never take the disagreements personally. The ideas are what's under scrutiny, not the person suggesting them.

Imagination is the reality of our dreamscape.
Debating tends to get people fired up about their opinions and viewpoints, and since this is the internet you can't really tell the tone of what the person was trying to get across. I can agree that it can heated over there sometimes, and it multiples by 11x when either the suggestion or the people replying start remarking and comparing real world issues.

The suggestions forum is probably the closest thing to a debate forum FR has, since it's basically everyone trying to defend their own viewpoints.

Honestly any forum that lends itself to the clashing of opposing opinions gets its fair share of toxicity here in FR.

It is to be expected as debate etiquette isn't really required to begin your Internet Journey... we wouldn't have as many memes if it was mandatory tho xD

You have to take it with humor and mentally accept that you just can't make everyone happy, and perhaps contact a mod if things start getting too out of hand.

To be honest? I think it's fun. It's (mostly) all in good fun, I think. People just get real passionate, but in general nobody is picking on people. Just ideas. And that's okay, pretty much every single idea in the history of the planet started out bad until the idea-person's friends started picking it apart. That's how good ideas happen. Refinement. You set it on fire and see what's left.

But every now and again I think I need to take a big break...
