It's a relatively recent addition, but an extremely welcome one. Before that there was no way to restore items, including via Contact Us!

That's odd... I don't have the option to hoardsell eggs. The only options I have are hatch, sell on AH, and store in vault. I didn't have the option of hoardselling eggs before the hoard update either. The game database lists eggs as having a 0t hoardsell price, which is the same for other un-hoardsellable items. You might want to submit a bug report since to my knowledge this shouldn't be possible and you might have encountered a bug.
Edit: apparently only nocturne eggs are unable to be hoardsold and the elemental eggs can be hoardsold. That sucks. At least now the item restoration feature exists.
