I realize this is probably swinging a bat at a hornet's nest, but im curious,
I've been keeping up with the threads on the new update, and see a lot of people saying 'this isn't how it should have been done', but i've seen few people give their opinions on how they would have tried to make everyone happy, while being realistic to prior game mechanics. For example: giving everyone back the money they lost on scattersight vials just isn't feasible because of the massive amount of work it would take to individually go through every one.
So, if you were the developers, and with the knowledge of how people reacted now, and all the concerns, how would you have made eyes more accessible?
Note:
Please no fighting, everyone has a right to their opinion, and no matter what, there will be people who love and hate any changes made. I'm just curious about people's ideas and fix it's, especially the difference between old and new players. I'm not looking to make another echo chamber of salt.
edit: slow to/if replying, but im reading everyone's posts! thanks for commenting :@)

I think maybe if they marked un-natural special eyes (excluding ones gotten by Scattersights) with a different special eye type indication different than [emoji=special eyes size=1], maybe it'll raise the value of natural/scattered special eye types again hm

I would just bring back Scattersights, because that's a very arbitrary restriction on staff's part imo. Pull a NotN/mini-holiday and just make them drop like mad in the coli a couple times a year. That way, you keep the appeal of the RNG factor for people, and the general rarity of special eyes, but everyone has access to them and an opportunity to profit off of Scattersights. And do it way sooner than three or so years after the update.
People would still have lost money, unfortunately, but I think that just about solves every other issue people take with the new update. Though it'd probably drive the gem/treasure ratio up, which would happen inevitably anyways.

I'd always choose accessibility over manufactured elitism. The problem was the first update to begin with, releasing scattersights in the Coliseum and then retiring them.
Personally, I would have been fine with rereleasing scattersights and not releasing vials for primal and multigaze, but being able to plan elemental eyes is also nice.
I do think we need another update though. Now that eyes are treated like genes, I think they have to be breedable. Just commit to it, and let people make hatcheries.

I would probably have brought back scatter sights and made them a yearly holiday-type deal, like @/Drakessis said. Kind of a happy medium I guess. I don't think those should have been retired in the first place.

I honestly think bringing back the scattersights would also be a massive market drop and cause a lot of issues.
What I think they could've done is increase chances of babies being primal if the parents were primal. or maybe just not release these at all, especially considering that they said it would never happen.
if they hadn't said it wasn't gonna happen or had done this sooner, less people would've spent immense amounts of gems on scattersights.

I think the way it is is fine, but I suppose it could be more interesting. "Recolour" eye types like uncommon, pastel, rare etc are fine as MP items. A nice batch of options for when the common eye type clashes. With eyes that change the base art, like faceted, primal, MG etc, it could have been interesting to make them available through different site mechanics.
One interesting suggestion I've seen is some kind of Exalt Shop, where instead of exalting for treasure you essentially trade in dragons for exclusive items. You could have a system like 100 exalts for goat/faceted eyes, 250 for multigaze, 500 for primal, etc. That way, certain rare eyes would be more challenging to acquire but still achievable through hard work and represent a commitment on the part of the user, so they still feel "special" without having to engage with absurd RNG mechanics.

It always baffled me why staff didn't just make the scattersights seasonally available or even put them into gem mp (perhaps same price as scatterscrolls, but up the chances of the rarest eyes). All they had to do was, instead of digging in their heels in the first update, say something about changing their minds and making scattersights available some way

The problems originated from day 1, with their intended goals and distribution of the new feature. I don't think the devs thought this feature through, and implementing it the way they did opened a huge can of worms.
Quote:
So, it started with an idea: the team has always wanted to include eye types as a random element in breeding. The ultimate goal was implementing new variation to dragons that was really spectacular, but also rare and special. The storytelling behind Bounty of the Elements and some new technology helped make this a reality. We were more than a little excited to hopefully add a breath of fresh air to the breeding system.
Our intent was for natural eye types to only apply to dragons upon the moment of their hatching. We felt that adding some extra magic would be a really great way for all players to have the opportunity to produce hatchlings with a little something special (every now and again) to make them rare and valuable. We recognize that our intent was not laid out as explicitly as it could have been, and will do our best to be better about that going forward, especially when one feature modifies another.
Before going into this, we originally had no plans to release the Vial of Scattersight. As the anniversary approached, we thought it might be nice to give everyone a way to have a brief opportunity to roll the dice on existing dragons as if they had just hatched. We decided to exclude Common eye types from the rolling chances, because all existing dragons had them. We realize now that what was originally designed as a gift turned into something frustrating, and for that, we want to apologize.

These problems were not addressed until almost three years later. If designing the system better from the outset is not a possible option here, then this is what I would have done: come to a final conclusion and implementation within months, not years. Removing the band-aid at any stage would hurt -- even if it was the day after the anniversary -- but by the time they finally did, it was a huge problem.

I'd always choose accessibility over manufactured elitism.

I never used a scattersight and only had the sole one given out by staff but to be honest I can understand the backlash over the natural eye types being released after how much scattersights have been used.
I mean if staff looked at all the page descriptions of "Not the one I wanted" and see the price increase on the vials of scattersight I will say that staff answered all of those with making all eye types available.
