Anyone feel a bit melancholy and spooked when they see old forum posts, or things from the past? This applies to more than just FR for me.

I always end up clicking on old profiles to see if they're still playing for some reason. It's such a strange feeling.

i will still say that i own the #420 saved scry
Heh for sure. I'm a little obsessed with that kinda thing, both online and irl something about it is fascinating.
It's difficult to describe, emotion and memories from long ago remaining in a dusty form now abandoned in the present... Melancholy is the perfect word for it, I think.

Forums don't bother me, but sometimes stumbling across a dead lair, especially one where the dragons are all dressed and have accents and are clearly loved gives me goosebumps. Makes you wonder what happened to the user, like if they just lost interest or something happened irl...

On both here and other sites, I know of users who are deceased irl. Sometimes I visit their pages as a sort of remembrance. Perhaps when we are long gone, people will piece together our lives from our digital footprints; a more detailed and colorful trace of our existence than a tombstone or urn.

Or maybe our children's children will read the fanfic we wrote ten years ago and simply cringe.

time, all regrets were yet far away...
I'm fascinated by old internet content. Seeing forum posts from a long time ago is so interesting. I remember a while back I got caught up reading old posts on here, just browsing threads from 2013-2014 or so.

Honestly, it's so bad to the point where I can't listen to old songs or look too long at old lairs. Forum posts are especially bad for that - they're an archive of memories lost to time. An ancient relic in themselves.

It makes me feel out of place. I was just scrolling through posts from 2013 (which really isn't too long ago) which made me make this thread.

@PandaOverlord I'm older than a lot of members on FR - my sig is basically using old Dragon Code, a shorthand way of describing dragonsonas back in the mid-late 90s Usenet days; when loading a single picture or piece on fanart on some computers was a ten minute process. That's nearly 25 years now of people coming and going. There's also memorial groups and pages for deceased members on Deviantart and Reddit. On here, these two old dragons of mine were newbie welcome gifts from a friend in 2014, who first got me onto the site. Though younger than me, he passed away a few years later. I knew her on other social media. [item=bubble brook gecko][skin=14685][skin=28724][skin=25331] She also sold a lot of custom skins including several that were star/astrology-related, her departure pre-dates the release of Starmap and Constellation and those skins were appealing as an aesthetic option for people who wanted a 'starry' theme back then. @pseudonum As time goes by, I find that the 'recent' (about 5-10 yea old) stuff feels an awkward bit of nostalgic/cringy/sad, especially if about a topic that no longer feels relevant - for example looking at the high prices for triple basic Skydancers in 2014, or the 'broken coli' rare glitch. But after many more years, and decades, I find I look back more fondly on old material. Sometimes you see a glimmer of the forward thinking and insight from someone that has become an established fact or trend now (such as Kizmetto's star-themed skins, or real life social activists from decades and centuries past with ideals that we embrace today but were radical in their time)...and feel proud and immensely privileged to have known them.
