I will be fairly disappointed to be honest. Ancients are cool but I don’t think they’re a big enough thing to have a whole event on the anniversary lead up to it. It would also be a little frustrating to have everybody hyping up a modern for nearly a week, devs saying nothing on it getting our hopes up just for it to be false.
That being said, I think it would be really cool if we got a modern and an ancient. It would be crazy to have two breeds at once and I think it would have to become my favorite update if it did. Anyways, even if it just an ancient and I’m a bit disappointed, a new breed is a new breed and I’m dying for more scries of my permas to consider

While it seems that a Water breed might be out of the picture (for now), I'd love to get that and an Earth ancient

IMO the reason staff don't denied modern breed is beacause people would ask about ancient breed next, lead to more or less indirect comfirm about the final reward.
I'm in the camp that the event itseft is the yearly new feature we got every anni, not whatever the end resuft is.

I was following the 'it's a modern' hype but then again why release a modern in an 'ancient dig unearthing the past? So sadly it's probably another ancient as another user pointed out to me.

i saw people speculate of a beast clan-alligned dragon and i'm clinging onto hope that it could be something cool like that. of course though i would be slightly disappointed with an ancient, but even then this event has been super fun and the excitement of what could be in the next rewards chest made me really into it :)

Not saying y'all don't have a right to feel however you'll feel, but I did want to offer another way of looking at it.
The anniversary's traditionally for introducing a new feature. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've enjoyed it tremendously; the community involvement this past week's really brought folks together, and we've been showered in goodies like elims and an unhatched egg without any call for stress or grinding. We've gotten a steady trickle of lore we've all gotten to hypothesize over together, too, and for me that's something FR misses most of the time, plus a fresh incentive to participate in pretty much every feature (besides the forums). The rewards are just icing on the cake.
Maybe if I'd spent hours and hours and hours grinding in the coli on expectation of a modern breed, I'd be spicier. But even if I had, it'd be on me; there's no benefit to doing that besides reaching the end faster. Basically "it's the journey, not the destination", and this journey's been unique and delightful.
If you don't enjoy the journey much and are just hoping for it to be over so you can grab the big prize, y'know, fair nuff. No event's for everyone. But like, staff did do a pretty incredible job with this IMO, and I'm hopeful a lot of folks have enjoyed themselves even if the cherry on top's not going to be, y'know, "new modern dropped!"-sized.

I keep thinking it's a modern, just because I remember reading that they were working on a modern that was meant to be released last year, but had to be delayed due to everything that was going on IRL last year. I don't remember anything about another ancient, so if it is then they've been keeping it really under wraps.

But as long as the ancient is radically different; something we cant get with a modern (not like veilspun and gaoler, and arguably even banes), like no arms, or all wings, or multiple heads, I'd be fine with it being an ancient tbh!
