don't look at those babies and tell me you don't get lion energy from them. that's literally what they are /lh

for me, i see them as a pride-minded breed. they live in prides, though its not your standard one-male-tons-of-females sort of thing. the gender ratio can vary greatly, especially since not all obes likely identify as male or female. it's up to them

considering that obelisks came from beneath the earth and most likely will find themselves dwelling primarily in dragonhome, it seems insect catching will be their go to unless they choose to find a shore, river, or other source of water to fish.

considering the geography of dragonhome, their luck for fishing will be in the east to southeastern region. prides will travel often, with both males and females doing the work of hunting for bugs or choosing to fish. nomadic by nature, obelisk prides will slowly spread out across the land over time. presumably many will go to nature or water territory, where fishing is abundant.

it seems likely that obelisks will choose seafood to be their preferred food, and so many packs are strictly piscivorous.

the hierarchy / structure of a pride typically consists of a reigning couple; male and female, male and male, female and female, etc etc. hatchlings are typically cared for by a diligent obelisk that has exhibited the fitting attributes such as fierce protection, and gentleness towards the innocent.

obelisks universally have something known as "pride culture." this refers to anything and everything pertaining to a pride, such as ranking, customs, etc. most prides have shared customs but may have different morals and ways of life. most prides have a neutral-benevolent sort of way of life, but there are those who may have more malevolent mindsets as a collective whole.

prides may vary based off territory and element. for instance, plague prides are more likely to have scars, and other sorts of mutations and immunities. ice prides have denser fur and manes. fire prides may have thinner fur and manes.

manes are also a very important factor of pride culture; more thick, curly and luscious manes are viewed with importance and high regard, and typically indicated a high-ranking individual. rebellious or revolting obelisks will shave or trim down their manes. this also applies to obelisks being punished for a heinous crime.

i also think they make ,,, big cat noises. roar
mew
purr
mothers will purr when brooding and caring for hatchlings
perhaps hatchlings even rely on their momma's milk before being weaned off?

sobs i love these babies

i feel they are very likely to adopt dragons, as they were made to protect their family and 'siblings' which seemed to indicate ... all dragons? to keep them away from that mysterious threat might 'take them'.

you seem remotely lost? you my baby now.
looking for help? don't worry brother i''ve got you.
someone actively in danger? oh HELL no

is very likely to take your posts literally - has difficulty discerning if tone is joking
Obelisks can roar like lions.

Also, some Obelisks may take a charge like a Guardian.

Gaolers and Obelisks either become fast friends or butt heads over each other's methodology.

Ooh, cool ideas! I hope we get a proper encyclopedia entry for them soon.

My headcanon is that the Obelisks can return to stone form, mainly doing so when they're gravely injured. The exact material they turn into depends on element, however - ex. Arcane Obs turn into crystal; Ice Obs turn into, well, ice; etc.

@plagues hehe

@Lifeseeker ooh, that seems very plausible! newcomers would be taken under the wing with careful consideration [no pun intended], but slowly welcomed in. the most caring of prides are quick to aid an injured or sick dragon though, i'm sure.

@TenderVulture i like those ideas! a charge definitely seems likely

@Nixpix awhh,, awesome! i hope to make a more indepth post [with art!!] on this headcanon soon, so stay tuned!

@panzerhaus thank you! i think that sounds pretty cool also- as in they have a secondary defense alongside claws and teeth

I'm waiting for the breed encyclopedia page, but headcanons will do for now [emoji=obelisk tongue size=1] Personally, I headcanon that obelisks can't fly, as with snappers before them, but their larger wingspan does allow them to glide, and they can use this ability to ambush enemies or glide above water to fish.
