Edit: Okay, could've worded that better since many pointed that out. (forums was so laggy I couldn't get back to the forums until 5 hours later) They do look more like Pixiu than Chinese guardian lions/lion dogs though.
And yes I know dragons on FR are not 100% based on one type of dragon/creature. (I personally think Obelisks are partly inspired by gargoyles both the stone part of the lore and some of the designs- wing type, horn design, etc.)
So yes, they could either be Pixiu / Lion dog + Gargoyle / Pixiu + Gargoyle / all three / other unnamed creatures / etc.
unless Devs confirm it for us anything is possible :)

Honestly? I can see Obelisks taking inspiration from both Chinese guardian lions and Pixiu. The breed seems to have elements from both inspirations and I don’t see why something can’t possibly be based off multiple things.
