So eventually light will be due to get an ancient. But I’ve been wondering how that will work since canonically, imperials are the lightweaver’s first children. Will the ancient be another dragon breed that was created around the same time as imps, originally to destroy the mistake? Will they be a breed she created while completely unaware that a breed was forming from her essence? Will they be dedicated emperor hunters who went into hiding since an emperor hadn’t been created for so long?

I've thought about this before, and I love the idea that light's ancient would've been made to destroy emperors. It could make sense for that to be the reason too considering we've got luminax now. Whatever the reason it was they disappeared, they have reason to reappear

On the Voices forum post (the one with all the gods saying something) the Lightweaver says this:
She says Imperials, not Emperors. Maybe light's ancient will be the antithesis to Imperials.

I see the truth. Though it wounds my heart, the Imperials were a mistake that must be rectified.

Honestly, since all the new breeds have been tied to the BOTE lore and for Light that means Luminax, I think it feels likely that they'll have been some breed made to hunt down Imperials because of the fact they create Emperors.
Maybe they went into hiding after deciding it was wrong to exterminate a whole breed who could not help what happens to them but didn't wanna be smote by Lightmom for refusing to work, and they're gonna come out the cracks now to take down Luminax.

I got a pet theory that I may be a bit too attached:
About three years ago, Lightweaver says this here:
"I see the truth. Though it wounds my heart, the Imperials were a mistake that must be rectified."
(I don't know if the raising of Luminax happened before or after her post.)
It sounds like she relatively recently made this decision. So, what if she makes a new breed specifically to deal with Emperors and Imperials, but she makes sure they can't breed with Imperials (thus risking making more Imps). Therefore, they wouldn't be able to breed with ANY modern.
Imperials: Lore wise are ancient, mechanically are modern
New breed: Lore wise are modern, mechanically are ancient
I don't know I just really like the mirroring that would have. (Honestly, I need to temper my hopes so I won't get too disappointed if this doesn't happen.) I don't know if that would be confusing for users, though. With ancient breeds, it is weird that Imps can breed with moderns, while the ancients can only breed with each other. Did the other gods make sure the 'new' moderns could breed with the only 'ancient' left as they stoped being extremely seperated?

Wouldn’t be surprised if light ancient is friends with plague ancient cause plague mom HATES zombies
Edit: reason for going away woulda been fact that they killed all emperors. Now we got one back after centuries

@LooLoo312 There’s a submission for the Light festival skin/accent contest that reflects this and it broke my heart

Oh winds if they made the light ancient racist towards imperials I would actually pass away

Ah well you see, pearlcatchers are notoriously racist towards other species but imperials most of all. oops.

I've seen a theory float around that because the Imps haven't been isolated like the rest of the ancients, they adapted with the moderns culturally and maybe physically. The Imps of today being slightly different from their forebears.
Personal theory is that when the BotE story for light comes around we might see mention of some ancestor imps, who have been isolated and not adapted to modern way of life, functionally being like the other ancients. (However likely only mentioned in passing not present in gameplay)
