...but can't keep for long.
I was talking a friend about this, we both have dragon breeds that we should be big fans of in theory but we never make permanents of or are the first to go during a lair purge.
Mine is Banescales. They are ferocious and tough looking, they break the limb mold, they have a tert that is bones in addition to having the cool fins, porcupine, and wraith.
I can't seem to get attached to any no matter how many times I try.
What about you? Got a breed like that? Do you know why you can't keep them despite by all accounts you should like them a lot? Maybe you can help me figure out why I can't keep Banes.

No traveling dragons please!
Tundras and snappers, unfortunately, I just don't like their breed art. But I'm also not a big fan of male mirrors, male pcs and male guardians. I don't have m mirrors, but I've male pc and guardian.
And whole one snapper for memes.

I have the opposite problem. By lore, I should hate pearlcatchers. The anatomy is terrible too. But genes and colors just look so good….
I want to like ridgies or mirrors more but my lairs gets pearlcatchers instead :(

Snappers. Poor babies just can't seem to hang around my lair for very long, with only one exception in Cosmos. I reeeaaally wanna put the Lava Eater accent on a dragon, but I've yet to keep a male Snapper long enough to wear it. I have nothing against them, I'm just super-picky and they're easy for me to exalt as I haven't gotten attached to many.

Gaolers for me. I love the fluff and horns, the body shape is fantastic, but I just can't find any I truly love. I get/make breeding pairs and while the babies are cute I'm not like, excited for them. I have exactly one
Gaoler in my main lair and even she's on a thin line. My other Gaoler is the Ancient flight rep.
Banes, too. They’re super cool, their lore was really good, and they’re a much better representation of Fire that coatls imo. But the only ones I’ve been able to hold onto are the 2 who I hatched when they came out.
I also can’t seem to hold onto Wildclaws even though they’re really cool/pretty and Nature’s dragons (Nature is my home flight). I’m a fan of them but as soon as I get one I don’t feel any attachment.
I don’t have any reasoning for you, but for me I think my heavy preference for spirals just...outweighs everything. So I rarely buy non-spirals and when I’m trying to cut down on dragons, other breeds tend to be first to go.
Edit: This is just for breeds I like on paper/in theory btw. There’s plenty of others I don’t hold onto because I hate the breed lol. Gaolers, tundras, snappers, fae, pearlcatchers, ridgebacks, bogs... And others I don’t hold onto because I’m indifferent about the breed (coatls, guardians, mirrors, veilspuns).

I like the design of ridgebacks and I definitely wouldn't mind having some in my lair but I just... haven't seemed to pick up that many? It's not that I'm deliberately avoiding them, I just never seem to bring any into my lair somehow.

I second Banescales. I have 4 but I'm not particularly attached to any of them

Banescales I liked them for a bit but, I have started to grow out of love with them with the exception of two and I don't know why

I should have a big bunch of snip-snaps! They look like their having such a good time and I really like their art, but I only just have 3-4 and I can't even figure out what to do with 2 of them. =(
Also- Banescales. They are literally wyverns, the best type of dragon, plus I can turn them into big fluffy chickens. ;) The only thing holding me back is the fact that they have soo few colorful genes. Theres pin/trail, ragged/tear, and sometimes chevron/arrow that I like. For my more basic go-tos theres only jag/rosette and laced/edged. They just simply don't have enough for work with, most of those I have could have looked much better as other breeds with more varied genes. ='(
To be fair, how fierce they look is probably a part of it too, I like more chibi designs a lot more.
