I just learned about gene banks and I would like to use one to buy an expensive gene but I can't find it in the Fire Forum, the Fire Sales forum, or Items to Sell. Where are they?

I just learned about gene banks and I would like to use one to buy an expensive gene but I can't find it in the Fire Forum, the Fire Sales forum, or Items to Sell. Where are they?

If you mean the system where multiple players all pay donations to collectively work towards getting genes... might not be a thing for Fire. The only one I know of, Plague's, fell in some time ago after the person running it went inactive with no warning... so, of course, everyone on the list who'd sunk months of payments into the system but not reached their gene yet ended up with nothing but lost money. In that respect, it's just a risky and flawed system because you can't guarantee that won't happen. You're better off just periodically putting some treasure or gems into your Vault if you want a way of gradually saving for something, tbh.

Savings banks where you pay in X amount at Y times until you've saved enough. Generally good for people who need help with spending/saving habits.
Crowd-funding banks where everyone pays in X amount at Y times and people are queued up to get their genes in some order. This is generally ends in some form of scam even if the people running it don't realize it.
Both types of banks rely on people always paying, never quitting and paying in enough to cover their own payouts. Since none of this is guaranteed most of these types of banks have disappeared.
If you want an expensive gene and don't want to pay the full price consider where the remaining funds are coming from. That's generally where the scam parts come in. If you're not paying the full amount someone/s is/are paying more than their gene will cost.

Those types of programs are frowned upon because of above reasons and because they can be seen as ponzi schemes. I used to run something like that but for lair expansions yeaaaaarrrs ago without knowing what ponzi schemes even were. I regret it.

I believe they ran one of the inflight Plague ones at one point. The way it used to work was that everyone would contribute 20kt? a week for a lair expansion, there was a queue. You had to be active to get a payout. Once you had a funded lair expansion, you would get bumped to the bottom. How fair it was was debatable - Plague split the lower cost lair expansions (< 250kt) off to their own program to prevent newbies getting scammed. That list moved fairly quickly generally. The big list was hit or miss as people frequently joined for the more expensive lair expansions (ie >1 mill kt) so it would always take a long time for it to move.
