TOPIC | Possible Breed for Fandragon Help?
I'm not quite sure if this is better here, or in a more general forum, but it is about dragons, in the end?

Has anyone here happened to have read the book series The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, by Cathrynne Valente? I want to make a fandragon for the character of The Marquess, but I am undecided on which breed.

For people who have not read the series, The Marquess is the antagonist throughout the first book, who ends up having a sympathetic backstory (and becomes one of my favorite characters, despite her... morally grey actions). She tends to be somewhat arrogant and in control in most situations, and wears a fancy dress and "a very fine hat", as well as having tightly curled hair that changes color depending on her mood.

I'm somewhat torn between a Skydancer, for it's fancy airs, and the feathers which could double for a fancy hat and such (apparel will help as well) or maybe an Obelisk or a Tundra, because all the floofy fur can also look like fancy, fluffy clothes (and also Obelisks are still new and cool). I ALSO thought Nocturnes sounded cool, because of their canonical mimicry, and The Marquess's backstory reveals she is, in a way, impersonating a version of herself.

Anyway, I was just hoping to throw this out there, and see if anyone else knew of the character/had opinions based on my description. Thanks for any help!

I don't know that book but from your description I would rather go with an imp or pearl.
They display that arrogance rather well but still look regale and controlling.
For the fluffy outfits you could use the wooly coats since they can be combined well with the other apparels..

@Adrestes Ooh, a Pearlcatcher is a good idea too. Thanks!

I realize this isn't what you were asking for at all, but I started messing around in the dressing room and came up with an outfit idea? As for breeds, I think that I like the Obelisks best overall for expressions and the big mane for her curls, but Nocturnes and Skydancers wear fancy outfits so well... (Also yesssss, Fairyland is such a good series, the ending of the last book makes me cry every time I reread it)

I was also thinking Pearl when reading that- if you use the FR lore, their breed personality also works well with what you have in mind! If Pearl isn't working for you, Obelisk sounds good- the female pose also has that regal air about it!

@browncoatparadox Ooh, I love the outfit, thanks so much! The last book is literally my favorite book ever (as if I don't say that about so many other books), I'm so glad other people love it too!

@Bronzewing Thanks for the advice! You're right, the canon lore does work too, which is nice.
