TOPIC | how do you work heterochromia into lore

was scrying up plans for another fandragon people won't get but one of their big things visually is that they have eyes of different colours and i was wondering how people make that kind of thing work lorewise because there's a lot of different options of how to play with this and tbh i just wanna hear what other people do

Never considered that! I should make a dragon that has heterochromia..
uhhh
magic imbalance
The magic when they hatched caused only one of their eyes to change, the other color would be random

Maybe the dragon could have hatched on the border between two elements?

i'd go with different eye types of the same element, since i don't think dual elements is really a thing outside of player made lore, and i try to keep at least some semblance of adhering to canon.

though if one is going for different colors, it could always be a non organic replacement. like a crystal that is enchanted to work as their eye.

is very likely to take your posts literally - has difficulty discerning if tone is joking
Technically we do have sectoral heterochromia as seen from Lightning Rare and Plague Rare: For complete heterochromia I can imagine a dragon having two different eyetypes, but only limiting having one element. So no funky bi-elemental combo shenanigans!

I mean, most of the Rare eyes have sectoral heterochromia; Lightning's is one of the more obvious ones with its brown-grey and cyan. Could just say that canonically this dragon's eyes are each one of the two colors? (Example:) [Edit] Heh, "same hat" as the poster above me.

I don't work with heterochromia in lore since canon wise dragons with 2 elements don't survive long. However, I suppose you could consider some Rare eyes as being heterochromatic, as they share an element but have two distinguishing colors (sort of) I've mentioned this is a similar thread but heterochromia within a flight's element could be a thing. For example, one eye being common and the other rare. Or multigaze but some of them are uncommon and/or unusual. For fandragons though, I don't really follow site lore. I don't have any who have heterochromia but I'd just pick the eye color viewable on the adult pose. If you're picking one where both show (like m spirals and m snappers) then I guess it'd be up to you which color you went with. Of course, in their bio you can always mention the heterochromia (fandragon or not) and/or add a pic of the character or maybe a photoshop version with both colors.

Well, here's my lore point on heterochromia.
Dragons can have heterochromia when born on border of Flight Territories or (in for example case of non-neighboring Flights like Nature x Arcane) could be an effect on transporting egg from one territory from another. There also exists in-flight heterochromia (ex. Wind Rare x Wind Unusual) that is an effect of a mutation. The Primals are the only exception, they can't have heterochromia as their eyes are the result of excessive flight energy, but, because they're overflowing with energy, they can sometimes cause their hatchlings to have heterochromia. As of Multi-Gazes, it depends on origin,if similar as to Primal then only in-flight heterochromia can happen, if caused by mutation, then can have any type of it. There has been seen cases of Multi-Gazes having 3 different colors of eyes.
Try to choose breed that has only one eye visible in their official art for your fandragon, you can always write in their lore that they have two different eye colors :)

Eye color is caused by a long period of exposure to the element of the area they're in, right? Kind of like how a mood ring changes color based on your temperature?

Well maybe you could blast the egg with a ton of elemental magic right before it hatches and then that side has the aggressor's element.

Easy! I don't do elemental eyes, I do regular genetics! That's why I have a bilateral chimera in my lair
