TOPIC | What are your primal eye headcannons?

What headcanons or lore do you have around the primal eye types on this site? Are they a blessing? A curse? Are they bestowed by The Eleven? Do they give the dragon powers? Attract good things or bad things? Something caused by an excessive amount of concentrated mana? Hit me with what you got, I'm curious.

Oh you're gonna love this. What do Primal eyes do in my lore? Huh? What do they do?
Absolutely n o t h i ng.

They're just a mutation and nothing more.
However, dragon society has deemed them to be blessings from the Gods, even isolated communities have arrived at similar conclusions. Despite having no actual use or meaning, dragons with Primal are treated with incredible respect and considered to be blessed by the respective God themselves, making them automatically high ranking members of society regardless of what they actually do. Many believe these eyes grant the blessed with gifts, respective of what God blessed them.
But any dragon who actually has Primal- and doesn't play into the whole belief system for benefit- will tell you it's a load of hooey. In fact, it's often more detrimental than it is useful....

I have a head canon that plague eyes are just pustules that if the dragon is attacked by something larger like a roc it pops and releases a massive stank and a revolting taste to allow the dragon to get away their real eyes are under and the things are transparent to the dragon so no hinderance

I headcannon that the light primal eyes just glow really bright,
and that the specific art we see is just as close the artist could get with a flat-colored 2D drawing.

Vin: Special eye monolair screaming time

Primal eyes don't increase any magical ability but are just a form of magical expression. This results in them being much more physical, consisting of a membrane overlay protecting the eye and the elemental features going on top of that.

Eyes which obstruct the vision such as Light have a higher tendency to be blind, and second to that are eyes which can potentially damage the membrane such as Lightning.

Sometimes the elemental expression expands through a dragon's body, this is most common with Plague where the boils can expand down the body, but also things like Shadow primal expanding to the mouth or throat, Wind primal affecting how a dragon inhales and exhales, etc.

i dont really have any lore written yet but for me i see primal eyes as very uncontrolled elemental energy. it bascially has no where else to go so the extra energy spills out through the eyes. though i imagine that if a primal dragon can calm their energy then they wont have the primal look all the time. they're just primal in their art to show they Have that effect, its not always a constant for them.

multigaze is something similar, in the sense that it's a large ammount of energy. though this time its constantly under control, which gives the extra eyes. the energy is spread through the entire dragon basically.
all other natural eyetypes are just mutations on my dragons rn

and i dont have any plague primal, but if i did it would either be the same as other primals or its own little plague nightmare mess depending on the dragon.

Just a Rain World fan who loves dragons.
They have a lot of extra elemental magic!! all the 'special effects' coming from the eye aren't real flames, water, or snow etc. they're just the manifestation of all that overflowing magic leaking out. like a heat exist vent for magic.

Personally, I believe primal eyes exist on a sort of spectrum. That is, sometimes dragons with them exhibit increased magical aptitude for their given element (compared to an average dragon of the same element). One primal eye arcane dragon might be stronger in their element than another primal eye arcane dragon, for instance. Most will just be an average dragon with interesting eyes.

However, it comes at a cost. It seems to be a mutation, after all, and some of these eyes seem to obstruct or diminish view(or, alternatively, allow too much sight in a way similar to multigaze) in some way. this is how it is for my earth primal Ferana, wherein she is extremely good at what she does, but she is also near-blind, especially for a mirror(which as a species see two different kinds of light in addition to having a wide viewing scope).

However (again), as stated in Aftershocks the eye types are, in fact, nothing- just a different expression that does not mean an increase in magic. Then again, those were hatchlings- so it could be that, if it is canon that primal eyes=more magic/magic ability, then it could express itself in adolescence or adulthood only.
