TOPIC | Headcanon: The Wasteland is Alive
1 2 3 4
Alright guys, since RoR is around the corner, might as well share a headcanon I just recently came up with: The Scarred Wasteland is alive. First off, if you have the effects turned on for the world map, you can see that the eyes that are in the Scarred Wasteland sometimes blink. [map x=1811 y=2042 view=land width=480 height=240]Check it out![/map] Second of all, the description of the Wandering Contagion describes that the flesh tendrils of Plague's landscape seem to have a mind of their own that are bent on expanding beyond the borders.
"Like an expansive festering scar, the edges of the Filthy One's domain have taken on a border conquest of their own. Tendrils and membranes, thick and resilient, still creep into every pockmark and outcropping of land they can find. It will not be long until the encroachment begins to threaten foreign clans and flights."
As for where the mouth could possibly be, my best guess would be the Wyrmwound since it kind of looks like a mouth and you can see the "teeth" around the Wyrmwound move if your have effects on and if you look close enough. So basically, the Scarred Wasteland isn't just a landscape, it's a living entity that wants to finish what the Plaguebringer started.

I actually love this headcannon and fully support it. I think I'm gonna make a dragon thats supposed to be a sort of 'host' to the living wasteland that my clan talks to sometimes

It’s probably flesh yes. I’d also accept a humongous fungus like the ones that were/are(?) taking up a sizable chunk of the state of Oregon. But with weirdly dragon like eyes...? But given that plague dragons hatch from pustules; wouldn’t that mean a lot of those boils on its surface are baby plague dragons? Also I guess, assuming it’s not somehow part of the plaguebringer herself, we should name the meat pancake/landscape. Like not the Scarred Wasteland, but something like Barry or Linda?

ooooo a big interconnected organism like aspens. The literal ground ain’t alive but there’s a big ol root system connecting offshoots of the main contagion. I like this concept a lot

The Scarred Wasteland being alive is one of my favorite pieces of site lore and why Plague is my second-favorite flight. Sornieth has its very own Mystery Flesh Pit National Park

I've always thought this as well! It's such a cool idea, and kinda echoes Plague's fungal theme, as mushrooms are usually part of a massive network of interconnected flora.

This is a really cool idea! Personally, I like to think that it isn't one organism, but rather that the land is teeming with so many individual slime molds and whatnot that it looks like a huge living thing, and all of these biofilms share the common goal of spreading themselves, much like real fungi and pathogens.

I like to think it’s alive and sentient (but not sapient). Meat-like fleshy fungus with eyes and teeth and pools of digestive acid.
