Rather in a specific sense...

Have you ever checked up on a dragon that was bought, that seems to be going to be used for a breeding project ... and poke around in their matching partner's history to realize that they are related, and kind of wince? Like 'oh no, did you not assay?'

I've seen at least a few occasions of this(a lot more when I regularly bred my Metallic/Alloy Obs/Obs/Golds in the genes early days), normally with my Imperial pair, since I name all the offspring 'Gold' it's kind of obvious when you go through the parents history and hit that name.

I actually unfortunately did this to myself and only found out recently lmao...I bought a pair a while back, liked how their potential offspring looked, and went to breed them recently now that I have more room in my lair - oops. looks like they were juuuust a little too close. guess I'll have to figure out some kind of lore workaround at the very least :/ the one time I forget to assay bloodlines lol

I've done this to myself a few times but never noticed when someone else has done it to themselves.

I'm convinced I had somebody buy a pair of siblings as a breeding pair once...

I don't know if this counts,, but the closest thing to that that happened to me was that every so often I would see these interesting looking Skydancers on the AH. I picked up like 4 of them, all at different times, like different months and such. Never thought to check their lineage.

After I got the fourth one, I made this story up in my head that they were all "brothers," but in the sense of they have a super close bond but came from different families. I finally checked the lineage of the first 3 I got and turns out they all were actual blood-related brothers. Some how I managed to check the AH at the perfect time at different points in the year and snatch these guys up before they became fodder.

It blew my mind, then I decided to check the lineage of the fourth guy I got hoping he was another brother! But to my dismay, he had different parents...

From there I decided to maybe start my own breeding pair to make more of those skydancers, and lucky me I managed to find a perfect female skydancer to pair up! I was hoping to pair her up with one of the 3 brothers, but I bought her without assaying.. turns out they were related... great. Curiosity got me though and I checked her lineage, turns out I bought the mom to those three brothers.

Curiosity got me again, so I checked who the father was to the 3 brothers to see if maybe I could beg the owner to let me buy him, and you know who that owner was?

Me.

That fourth one was the dad.
I was just too stupid to check through his list of kids for the other 3 boys.

@KnucklePuck That story is amazing.

@Reilata I did this to myself. Went through an entire multi-generation breeding project to create a specific mate for one of my dragons. Didn't realize until it was finished and I went to nest the happy couple that the one dragon I had failed to include in the assays was my original dragon.

Sometimes.

I breed a lot of XXX pearls and roses for fodder purposes and sometimes I'll put them up for sale for funsies if they've got matchy or special eyes. Since I name all of my fodder "Cultist" it's quite easy to see when they pop up in a lineage somewhere.

So far I haven't run across any unlucky soul who has accidentally bought related XXX pearl/rose dergs to be apart of a pair.

Unfortunately me selling those dragons means that I now have to assay bloodlines EVERY TIME I want to buy a XXX pink-colored dragon for a fodder pair since they may already be related to the pre-existing dragon that I wish to pair it with.

I think I've seen it a couple times with my eyeburners, but I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure if they really did intend to breed them.

I ended up putting a chart in my hatchery of which pairs' offspring can breed.

Not extensively. Lol I feel like it's a little stalker-y even if the user doesn't know so I basically just look at my dragon, admire any outfit/lore they might've gotten, and leave.

As for being on the end of buying related dragons for a breeding project... nope. I always make sure to assay bloodlines before hand. Usually the dragons aren't listed for below/at fodder price so I have time to at least do that before purchasing them.

I will say I recently bought some for an eldritch/umber/obsidian project (it's SO hard to find eldritch/x/obsidians in general let alone in the ranges I need where the secondary isn't also in the black range :/). Even harder because I tried to find some with the metallic primary I need so I at least won't have to buy a gem gene.
Anyway, the female and male of one pair is related to another boy I have to use for a second pair (yep, bought them fully aware of it). Thankfully, the 1st pair's hatchlings should either be able to make hatchlings that can breed with him OR his hatchlings should be able to breed with the 1st pair's.
Luckily, I only need 1 dragon so it doesn't matter if I just miss inbreeding them to get what I need.

@KnucklePuck kfdjsdfgs that's wild??

the only similar story I have (which isn't actually related to the thread, but just related to bizarre coincidences) is this:

one day I was browsing the AH for pretty fodder dragons to turn into permas

then my mom called me downstairs to do some chores, but JUST before she called me I clicked on a dragon I thought was really pretty, and gave it a star

hours later I came back online and out of curiousity checked who had bought the dragon I was looking at... and it was my friend???

I literally only have 8 friends on here (and the one who bought it is one of the two closest of those friends too), so the fact that out of the THOUSANDS of people online while that fodder hatchling was for sale, one of the eight people I know bought it, absolutely blows my mind

(you can even see the message I wrote on its profile when I realised!!)
