I want to hear some potentially horrific gene takes. Not blood guts and gore type, but just weird and maybe some disturbing takes.
And even just non-disturbing takes that you think are cool!
Like ghost being the bones inside a translucent dragon, capsule dragons working like glass frogs, the application of multigaze vials, slime and sludge being... slime and sludgy! Cmon, my October-enjoying soul is begging
Apparel/skins and all that included [emoji=normal eyes size=1][emoji=special eyes size=1]
-- Try not to post disturbing images and that here though, yknow? ;w; --

Capsule is a dragon’s digestive fluid and you can see all the gross mush collect at the bottom when the dragon is asleep

My previous idea on Gembond/Cry/Face/Opal might work for that.
As gembond is a spreading toxin or infection from the onyx cobra, altering them even down to a genetic level, I had thought that eventually it would completely take over and solidify the dragon. Essentially killing them.
...until Crystal came out and I was like 'well... ' those completely solidified by gembond would eventually begin to move again after a period of hibernation, now adjusted to their new crystalline form. A sort of ... living stone, capable of what they used to do, but not really needing to do it(not needing to breath or eat, but they can if they feel like).
Of course parents of Crystal babies might freak out while their children do not move for some time after their egg hatches. Curled up statues.
Opal is a further mutation, a sort of... gembond variant, that starts underneath the skin, and mimics the body better. It still has the same results eventually, but is less bulky in the meantime. The part where the skin/scales start falling off to reveal the stone beneath is rather distressing if one doesn't expect it.

I once saw someone on the forums say that morph looks like trapped spirits and I haven't been able to get that out of my head (but like in a good way). Lil ghosties in the wings
I really want to make it work for my dragon Myrsky, who has become a psychopomp of sorts in my lore but [s]I haven't bought morph yet[/s]* for him since I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the other genes.
*Edit: oh gosh people on the forums are so sweet! someone sent me a morph barely 10 minutes after i posted [emoji=heart size=1]

constellation/starmap are bioluminescent spots on the scales of the dragon that happen to take the shape of a night sky.
runes is the same thing.
crackle is scales that didn't form correctly in the egg and so the crackle area is actually kinda squishy and ew
veined is veins. what did u expec from the name.
poison/toxin, dont touch them! they're poisinous!

This isn't a weird take at all, but I like to think that ALL genes come from creatures. Onyx cobras can "infect" a dragon with gembond, but I also think that the original 'source' of all non-basic genes is creatures like the onyx cobra. I even like looking at familiars and trying to figure out if they look like they have any dragon genes and how they might "infect" a dragon with that gene.

I have always thought opal is a gene that causes certain scales and hairs to become hardened and shiny. They shed off like normal scales and the opal appears at a different place on the dragon each shed.

I will put something here eventually.
Personally my gene hcs are SUPER tame (I think every gene is either a scale pattern or a magical effect, pretty much) but I once saw someone suggest patch/stitch meant the dragon was a sewed up Frankenstein’s monster of dragon flesh and body parts

Gembond is a skin disease of sorts that can be fatal for the dragon if not properly managed
