Flight Rising Discussion

I'm a big fan of earth, and it really makes me sad when people brush aside my flight as "just boring rocks". Actually, it makes me kind of sad too when they then add "but of course there's also shiny gemstones!" I didn't join earth for [i]gemstones![/i] If I wanted crystals I would move to arcane. This entire post is everything to me. I get so tired of having to point out that Earth is more than just Dirt Flight.

We have scary undead! We have historic graves and a problem with robbers! We have a lonely deity and the Pillar! We have intense earthquakes! We have a big ol' crack in the ground full of the caverns the first clans lived in! We have big markets and researchers and dragons with expansive memories and musicians and actors! Why are we always just Stones And Dirt (And Sometimes Gems If People Remember)?

I want stuff about giant libraries, and for us to get more zombie stuff instead of Plague. I wanna see festival items reflecting the artsy sides instead of just new ways to stick rocks on our dragons. Where are the tales of Earth flight working with Arcane, Lightning, and Light's scholars and inventors? There's so much...

EDIT: I'd like to clarify that, personally, I'm speaking about this on a broader scale and not necessarily about skins that get into Rockbreaker's (although it would be nice if the skin judges expanded their picks a bit). It's an ongoing frustration with how Earth flight is viewed all year long, not just in November.

But making skins for Earth is hard :(. /lh

It's so sad that even when people are trying to look at the upside of earth they're just like uhm uhm uhm. They have shiny rocks maybe? :D Earth for me is about the desert, and antiquity, and secrets hidden beneath the ground. A place that always hints that something more is hidden in the sands, that anyone who stumbled across the rocks could happen upon some secret that none before have seen. Dirt is fine too, but it's just so sad that every other flight gets people scrutinizing it for lore but earth's world map locations don't seem to register at all in most people's minds.

I have 7 pages of them in my vault and I have submitted the skin.

squints earth has what now??? like, i don't keep up with fr lore, like at all, but there's so much potential!!! if i had A Singular Ounce of Artistic Ability i would absolutely draw and submit a skin with skeletal worms bc that, that is cool.

help i'm having visions above my drawing ability

I made a skin entry that's a mix of the gem & skeletal wyrm aspect for last year's RB entry because I too love me some mineral skellies, but alas the judges do like dirt & gems, just like they generally go zombies/fungus/disease skins for RoR and rarely pick bones/survival aspect entries. [s]more bones for the bone gods plz, every flight needs bones! [emoji=familiar heart size=1][/s] I'm not amazing at skins tho so could be why it didn't win, I'm holding out for some amazing artist making a skeletal earth skin that's just so good the judges can't say no to satisfy my dusty skeleton skin needs, someday it's going to happen, hopefully :p
