does anyone else hate the way they've been handling seasonal gem MP items? the cyber monday sale in particular is really putting a bad taste in my mouth. suddenly reintroducing a ton of seasonal items for four days, with no warning, on top of a big gem sale just feels slimy to me. especially considering they promised to give a heads up whenever they cycle something in for less than a week:
If any of our out-of-season items are going to be cycled in for less than a week's duration, we will absolutely be giving a heads-up. We're not going to drop something like that out of the blue.
i wish we had an actual schedule for when these items return (you know, like, a cycle), or at least more than four days to buy them. i'm not opposed to seasonal items existing but the way they're doing them right now is just frustrating. yes, i know stormlight is a business and they need money to keep the site up, but there are ways to get it without predatory FOMO nonsense like this.

If you haven't already, there's actually a thread in suggestions to voice your opinion on this too.

I don't mind cycling items but when I think of cycling, I think of a schedule at the bare minimum. The Cyber Monday sales are the only remotely consistent sales they seem to have, but newer players joining throughout the year rarely know about those because they're typically not spoken of. Those of us that do know of it can easily forget throughout the year as well, which sucks.

And that's just one time they consistently bring back cycling items. The other times we only had a vague idea, and I remember this year people were questioning if they were even going to cycle back WC scrolls this year. It's insane.

A schedule should be made public like the festival Encyclopedia entries.

black friday/cyber monday seemed like a natural time for these kind of things to me.

Yeah I really hate the current way of cycling items. I don't think I've ever seen anyone like it being random with zero prior warning for less than a week, and I have to agree with the opinion that (whether intentional or not) it feels predatory towards people who will panic and buy gems.

The price of purchasing gems with USD really, really does not feel worth the "bang for your buck" so the 10% bonus kinda just made me scoff a bit. How magnanimous.

Thinking about how much you spend here. $10 worth of gems won't even get you a single gem gene from the marketplace.

...And now my more personal stake in this.

I am not American. My currency is weaker than the US dollar, so I'd be spending closer to 15, or 20 dollars to get a single gene for one of my dragons. There are times, and projects where I would consider buying gems to complete, but I literally cannot justify it to myself for what I spend vs what I receive.

We really do not get enough mileage from Gem purchases imo, it's very frustrating.

Anyways, shoutout to my fellow Canadians, and South American homies who know the struggle with me :')

i really don't get why cycling in items that never actually retire is at all very FOMO/predatory. they never very frequently add to the list of cycled items so unless you're extremely new you've had multiple chances to purchase these items in the past.

i do agree that the amount of gems you get per USD is a bit low for the current games economy and should probably be raised at some point.

@Pyrali
Yeah IMO 10% is just. Whoop de doo. I might actually buy gems if gem market items didn't feel so prohibitively expensive. And I live in the US. If there was a sale that brought prices to more like $5 a gene, I'd be giving it real consideration.

The other thing that gets me is that they phrase the cycling out of silver sylvan items like it's an exciting thing. No, it's not. You're taking something away that we've always had available.

IDK, it's just really dumb that we had zero warning or chance to prepare, and all of a sudden everything is cycling back in to make people panic-buy gems.

Not Canadian or South American but I remember my visit to Canada years back. The conversion was insane then and I imagine it's worse now. Anyway, what I wanted to ask was is that really the case? I thought the conversion would be more or less equal in any currency. I'm not the best at math anymore but it's insane to me that a gene would be so much more. D:

Edit: Hope the ping was okay!

And, honestly, the items are super expensive for even me. I'm in the US and still think that, for the equivalent of a video game skin, I get more bang for my buck. It's weird.

@Hag

To be fair, if you think this way, then you're not the target. For a lot of people, it's that they might have a dragon that they've been wanting to buy a set for, and may have been slowly saving for a cycle. Now, they either have to buy gems or wait another completely unknown amount of time for that item to cycle back in. People will panic-buy gems to avoid missing out on that window.
