TOPIC | Not on the Winter Solstice?
I guess maybe this is just a me thing, but for some reason I've had it in my head that NotN always starts on the Winter Solstice? I looked it up in the Encyclopedia and it says
From the veiled brambles and branches of the Tangled Wood, the elusive Nocturnes are begin to spread across the realm. These oft-hidden dragons are leaving the comfort of their dreary habitats and traversing Sornieth under the cover of darkness. On this, the shortest day of the year, Nocturne dragons rule the skies.
(Emphasis mine) I haven't been the most active in past years, but boy have I been getting ready for this year, so I was just trying to plan my Christmas break, lol, and realized after snooping around the forums that maybe I was wrong....

eh, probably just coincides with the Sornieth shortest version for lore and not the human Earth one, as the admins want their holidays to start and end on specific days of the week.

is very likely to take your posts literally - has difficulty discerning if tone is joking
Fairly sure that's just on site lore and written because it sounds cool, and not them referring to the actual date of winter solstice. I think it always starts on a sunday, like the festivals.

Well I'm a total dodo anyway for not realizing until today that it always lands on a Sunday XD

Yeah, it doesn't start on Winter Solstice, pretty sure it tends to start before it

since notn extends over last two weeks in december iirc, n solstice is always either 21st or 22nd, it's rare occurrence for em to be the starting date

if my math is not fully wrong, this year notn should start on 19th

I like D&D
Sornieth is a completely different planet, so it makes sense that there are some differences in planetary events like that. It's entirely a lore thing.

Imagination is the reality of our dreamscape.

I think it's supposed to kind of coincide with the solstice, since that is the darkest day of the year, but it doesn't necessarily begin *on* the solstice, just somewhere around then.

I agree with the person predicting the 19th just because that's the last 2 weeks that fall (almost) fully in December.

As mentioned, it started on the solstice when it was first introduced! The start date varies but it's usually within a day or two of the solstice. They all started on a Sunday except for '15 and '17 but those went live at like nearly midnight so it was basically Sunday.
 • 2014 - 21st
 • 2015 - 19th
 • 2016 - 18th
 • 2017 - 16th
 • 2018 - 23rd
 • 2019 - 22nd
 • 2020 - 20th
 • 2021 - most likely the 19th!

NotN always covers the two weeks that contain Christmas Day and New Year's Day. It isn't always the last two weeks of Dec, but it usually will be!
