I absolutely don't regret going G1 only for my lair. It made the game a lot more interesting for me in a lot of ways. I went further and made myself 99% doubles only, to keep myself from buying every cute G1 I saw.

But there are things you have to consider for sure! If not having Imperials is a big thing for you, you could always make an exception for Imps. If you are bothered by having unfinished projects (i.e triple basics) hanging around your lair for awhile, I wouldn't go for it either unless you have enough saved to gene every dragon before you buy them.... OR if you can push through it!

For me, my main thing is I can't stand having unfinished dragons. I try to only have a few at a time, but right now I'm a bit overloaded and its bothering me. Which just means I need to sell some or get on geneing!

But I say if you really want to, go for it!

Pros:
- Less impulse buying/keeping pretty fodder
- More lair space while starting out
- I personally enjoy the challenge
- Dragons become more sentimental due to having so much effort poured into em
- Proud achievement of being a G1 lair

Cons:
- A lot of initial dragon debt, sometimes it’s constant
- May struggle with finding nice, cheap G1s
- Get hawked with offers for pretty NFT/S doubles
- Have to exclude imperials unless you settle for G2+s
- People may be scared of you

That’s all I can come up with initially, it’s up to you to weigh up how you feel about your lair and or if you wanna transition; but being a G1 lair is so fun for me and I love it too much for it to be healthy /gen

Hey look at it this way. You’re able to be picky with your dragons and customize them to your hearts content without having to wait for a oodles of breeding projects. Personally it helps me be less impulsive because I know I put a lot of money into my gens ones, but I also don’t really have a budget so I have been a bit impulsive lately…

I’d say if you have the funds, go for it! I personally make enough from my art shop to have a gen one completely gened and dressed within two weeks (given the average of the apparel and genes of my most recent ones).

the blank canvas you buy and gene up to "your own perfection" is the charm in it. Being broke and having a ton of projects at once is a side effect we ignore okay :p jokes aside though, as many have stated, the challenge in working on something all new is the biggest itch for many of us, for me I also really like diving into bargain bin sales and find hidden gems [emoji=familiar heart size=1]

Don't do it. If you're always broke you're gonna hate it.

It used to be a thing established players did to give themselves a bit more challenge. Ofcourse then it became a status thing, G1s = rich, established player.

Figure out why you want to be a G1 lair.

I find that I save money by being a G1 lair: less impulse buying, less dragons in general, less appeal to fill up and most importantly less clutter.

I also find it nice how G1 dragons are almost 'custom' so you don't end up with the identical xxy everyone has and forces you to be creative and make up your own dragons!

Although I should warn you to not onboard tons of projects and look at costs up front. I see lots of people getting overwhelmed with piles of projects. I avoid this by looking at dragons for their whole cost when I buy them, instead of saying "wow cheap G1 on the auction house" I think about whether I actually want to drop ~ 1kg on a G1. Preface warning

And also its fine to keep G2s as well, I keep a couple old G2s for sentimental reasons. :)

man i wanna do it but that would mean purging like 100 non gen1s, some of which are quite old and some who are sentimental.

hoping to see someone convince me here too lmao

edit: if it helps, ive been recommended yeeting the nong1s into the hibden, either permanently to keep the main lair aesthetic or temporarily to help you decide how much youd miss em
Figure out why you want to be a G1 lair.
Gonna second SCB's advice here. It's a big commitment! Personally, I'd only go for it if you really love the challenge of collecting and geneing G1s, and if you're ready for how expensive it's going to get. I was a mostly-G1 lair for a few years, and I found it kinda... restricting, I guess? More often than not, I'd buy dragons with decent colours because "oh it's a brown G1 and I collect brown G1s", like I absolutely had to stick to a theme or something. YMMV, of course, but it ended up being more tiresome and dull than exciting to me. [emoji=guardian sad size=1] I've long since sold off most of the dragons I bought and gened back then because I never did get attached to them. (Plus being G1 only makes it painful when you want a specific colour combo, since the odds of finding the exact colours/Flight you want are so slim. Would not recommend a G1 lair if you think you're gonna want specific colour combos for your dragons, haha.) That said! I still have a bunch of G1s, largely because I can't stop hatching any eggs I find and keeping the babies. :'D It is definitely a very rewarding feeling to gene a dragon up from scratch. Like painting a picture on a blank canvas or something. It's nice to be able to look at your favorite dragons and be like "Yeah! I made this!" My lair is probably half G1s, half breeding projects/fandragons by now. Collecting G1s has been a lot more fun for me now that I'm not forcing myself to only collect G1s. Makes it feel like more of a personal choice for the fun of it, ya know?
