My account is at least 7 years old now, and I've been reminiscing. My account creation day was also the day my progenitor dragons came into being.
What did/do/will you do with your progenitors?
For me: I personally have been keeping them around for sentimental reasons. I ended up featuring the random one more (and she's even my profile picture). I'm contemplating whether I should gene them, or if I should gene their remaining child/descendant, or use them or their descendants to create more plain exalt fodder.

My progens have been bumming around my lair since the day they came into being. I intended to build my lore around them, and even though it's been years and I've yet to actually work out the whole story and everything I couldn't possibly replace them as my clan leaders.
I haven't touched their genes since I first gened them. I don't change genes on dragons once they've been bred, so they're going to stay the way they are for eternity in that department. I have given them new outfits a few times though. It was nice to dress them up in more cohesive, personality-appropriate apparel when I finally got around to that, lol.
They haven't been bred since... 2013? I'm guessing that's when I stopped. I only went as far as the offspring box would go before it needed a scroll bar, and then I focused on their offspring. I try to keep my offspring lists like that (with the exception of breeding projects), so none of my dragons have huge numbers of kids. A few years ago though that inspired me to try and track down an active dragon from each flight that was descended from my progens. It took a while, but I found them all eventually and now I know that 1) those original 9 offspring managed to branch out to all the flights eventually and even had active descendants so many years later, and 2) by owning one from each flight I know that legacy will continue as long as I stay here on FR.
So yeah. These days my progens don't do much more than sit there and look pretty, but I love them to bits and I could never write them out of the lore or anything.
Side story: when lair tabs were launched I hatched a pair of eggs as 'new progens' for a secondary clan where I wouldn't have to follow my lore rules. So far I haven't regened those dragons or done anything crazy with them, but I've found it nice to have a smaller blank slate kind of thing going on for if I ever get the itch to make big changes but don't want to do so with my main clan dragons.

I've got them all nice and gened up (yes Ihsan has two basic genes. I like her that way). Amusingly, I'm in a similar boat to you: my random progen was ultimately the prettier dragon (Obsidian/Emerald/Beige vs. Ice/Sky/Obsidian). It got to the point where I actually scattered my custom progen and got incredibly lucky with the first scatter; getting a primary and secondary that were incredibly similar to her original colours (was Ice/Sky/Obsidian, now White/Teal/Indigo). Said custom progen has also gone through a crazy number of breed changes and gene overhauls, having started as a Mirror she has since been a Ridgeback, a Skydancer, a Pearlcatcher and now finally a Veilspun with who knows how many gene changes over the years.
As for lore...
Ihsan has a complete bio which has undergone a few re-writes as my overarching lore has changed, though in a way she's also the best dragon to get a look at my FR history as viewed through a lore lens! I like to integrate things I've done on-site into my lore (for example, the Great Plague was a massive lair cleanout I did while moving from Plague to Shadow).
Feykro has much less written lore, especially since he's part of the
Glass Order. Aside from one outlier and one planned project, all of the dragons there have or will have very minimal lore in a similar pattern.

My progenitors are still the first two dragons in my lair, and they're not going anywhere (except sometimes the hibden if I need the space). They're special to me; I came up with lore for them during my first week playing (though only one really has anything of note written down so far), and fully geneing them was one of the first goals I ever set for myself on this site. I also have a lot of their children and grandchildren lying around the place, one of which is my current avatar dragon. Even though I exalt most of their kids these day, I still enjoy breeding them, and I have a goal to get them to 100 offspring one day.
It's really interesting to me, seeing people's different attitudes towards their progens. Some aren't fussed about them, but that was never a possibility for me: I get way to attached to my pixel dragons [emoji=tundra happy size=1][emoji=fae happy size=1]

Spoil them rotten. They're fully gened, fully dressed, Lvl 25, have matching mates, have literal books' worth of lore, and will eventually get custom accents. ^^;

They hang out in the front of my lair and greet people. They've been doing that since Day 1. :>
I have them both fully gened and fully leveled with stones. They're nicely dressed, although I recently have been updating the outfits of some of older dragons, and my random progen
Blood Sprig got a completely new wardrobe over NotN.
One day I might make them nice bios lol.

I levelled my progens, they are my Coliseum staples now. They also double as fodder breeders, so they are very productive in terms of raking in treasure for me. I kept 2/3 of their first litter and gened those too (kind of regret that though, now I feel obliged to keep them), though they too are fodder breeders.

My custom has been spoiled rotten and so was my random at one point, but I've fallen out of love with him. I'm considering either giving him new genes or scattering him eventually but he's basically at the bottom of the list. Tbh if he weren't sentimental and I hadn't sunk money into him already I'd probably have gotten rid of him long ago.

I love my progens enormously. They have one gem gene each - I only have no plans to upgrade them further because I like how they look now. Iris was breedchanged as soon as I could brew bogsneak scrolls but Chet is staying Guardian-shaped. They're both lvl 25 and Iris does the bulk of my fodder training as well as my avatar.
