I have a long-term friend @Ailinn . She's a wonderful person and a nice, casual player, she's got an aesthetic lair, a comfort-driven lifestyle and undying kindness for everything that's alive.
We play together a lot; I usually help her with some stuff I grind, she gives me money and company.
This is the story of Ailinn and the coli drops.
Earlier this year, Ailinn asked me how do I get enough fest currency for all my stuff. So I did what was done to me once - grabbed three pretty dragons off AH, quick-levelled them to 11, slapped some elims and gave to her, go get some farming girl. Ailinn gets some, but isn't too happy - "it's hard to fight low venues monsters, they're harmless little critters! And I went to Scorched, and there was a cat, so I just ditched it." She can't hurt a cat for dear life.
Okay, I catch a mini-holiday and grind those dragons up to 25. (Kelp build I use myself - reliable grinding in lower venues, can mirefly with a bit of extra effort, and could take some punches in GW before I got myself a mage.) Tell her - okay, now you're free to choose, just don't go to GW/Portal, they're scary. Fine? Fine. Off she goes, trying to get some hibden stuff between festivals.
Then she calls me she wandered into Forgotten Cave, instantly got a dire claw, and it INSTANTLY DROPPED.
I teased her for a month. I told her it's a bit of insane luck. Ailinn responded, it's not that much of luck if she can't get the things she does want. Then, another fest came, and off to Volcanic Vents we go.
Where she gets a Hydra drop the first day.
It had the potential to become a meme right there. It didn't, because we went on semi-hiatus after the fest ended.
Fast-forward to now. We both return for the NotN. We farm coli a bit (not too dedicated, the chest drops are good without), I get some missed fams, she gets a couple of elims. I scry another dream dragon. I feel like some friend budgies will fit. I remember some people saying budgies drop less than bossfams. I share my grievances with Ailinn.
"I can go into Harpy's Roost and help," she suggests.
"Okay, just watch out for bossfams," I tease.
"You'll laugh," she writes the next day.
She barely spends an hour in Coli per day.
I comment with more memes, we laugh, NotN ends.
The next day she pings me again, "Hey..."
All this time I grinded like a madman. No rocs, no budgies.
And she just did it again.
Okay, thanks, Ailinn.
The next day, the saga continues.
Are they realy more rare than bossfams, she asks. I point her to the AH. A bit tired of grinding myself - I still hope to get my bossfams, and nothing dropped for me during that time.
We drop off for a couple of days, playing a Pokemon game. Stuff being stuff, I go out sad and frustrated, Ailinn texts a lot, saying she wants to make me happier. In an hour, she writes, "Maybe this will cheer you up..."
Wow. Really?
She gives me the bird. I start theorizing about how on earth is this happening.
The next morning she greets me with this.
Ailinn. Please stop. xD
Yesterday, she casually mentions, "Hey, I went into GW and a scene dropped, do you need one?"
First, of course she did. Second, "What were you even doing in GW? This is not the most pleasant way to spend your time." "I wanted to check how scary it is, and it's tolerable", she says. Okay, not judging. I promise to get her a mage on another microholiday if she likes it there. "Oh, and if you bring me another bossfam in the morning, I'm posting all of this in the forums," I mention.
Guess why we're here.
