I have a few g1s I've had sitting for sale for a while. There hasn't been interest in any of them and I'm not really wanting to keep them around. I kinda feel bad for exalting G1s since it could be someone's dream g1.
How long do you keep unwanted g1 before exalting?

If you really want to get rid of them to the point that you're willing to exalt them, just drop the price on the AH.

People might look for their date or ID for some reason or another, but that's not your problem. I exalt mine when they don't sale because exalting makes me treasure.

Any G1 I don't want to keep and isn't selling gets exalted or sold for fodder. Most g1s are unremarkable and not worth much, so there's little point in holding onto them just for that tiny chance someone is gonna come looking for that exact combo and is willing to pay more than exalt price for it.

...if you fall out of love, exalt the g1 yourself.
I sold a kiddo a while back and his name got changed from something innocuous to something nasty before he was exalted. I'm no saint and I especially wasn't then, so there may well be justification for it- but it's something I can't change now, y'know? (It wasn't a one-off either, but... the whole "once you sell it, it's not your dragon" thing came into play with the tickets.)
On the other hand, I've had g1s sell after a year of listing them. Sometimes it just takes a while. So I can't say one way or the other for sure.

I like being pinged, but not mass ones.
I often process thoughts by writing... Trying to TL;DR more.

If you've had them for a while and no one has messaged you about their dream dragon it's pretty safe to assume that at this moment in time no one wants that specific colour scheme enough to be regularly checking for it. It isn't really reasonable for you to be expected to keep every dragon indefinitely just in case someone, at some point in the future, might want it.
We exalt gen 1s if we don't like how they look :D We'd rather have some money now than the potential for maybe more money at some point in the future.

If you have a lot of g1s, it might be worth setting up a cheap auction where all the SBs are like 20g and pinging GASP. I did it and though some left unclaimed, some were autobought for higher than I was originally selling at. After that, if there’s no interest, I’d just exalt them.

If they're adults, I just exalt them the moment I don't want them anymore. I'm one of those people who doesn't rlly place much value in the g1 aspect of a dragon, I'm as likely to completely regene a g2+ if there's a combo I like better, so g1s don't get special treatment from me when it comes to exalting lol
