TOPIC | How do you name your dragons?

I am not asking for tips or advice on how to name my dragons, I just want to know what your methods are.
I usually name them after random objects that nave pretty names, or search for baby names by their meaning for dragons I want to write lore for. I used to just randomize, but that ends up giving me dragons with names I can’t pronounce or compound words that sound a bit weird.

I just use the randomize name option until I find one that's nice.

It took me around 2 to 2.5 years (2015-2017) to start a more consistent naming scheme. I had fairly above average knowledge on Kemetism but I did not spend nearly as much time learning about Ancient Egypt as I have been in the past-......5 years. So yeah, started off small and then just went ahead and spend hundreds upon hundreds of hours scurrying through literature to find names of Ancient Egyptian gods.

It's a multi-step process usually.

1. Stare at dragon for a while.
2. Have massive "a-ha!" moment when I figure out what that dragon's major quality is.
3. Thumb through dictionary.
4. Spend silly amount of time on Wikipedia chasing various ideas. End up on totally unrelated subjects and get massively distracted until I look at the clock and realize it's really late at night/I'm late for work/the laundry finished an hour ago.
5. Play with random name generator. Occasionally hit it lucky.
6. Mess about with Google Translate.
7. Stare at dragon for a while.
8. Unspecified number of months later, finally just choose a name from the previous list of rejects.

Most of my clan is named after fire terms/names meaning 'fire', but sometimes, I just stare at a dragon long enough and inspiration hits. Only exalts get the random generator.

Poke randomize until something I like comes up and then change the ending to match my clan's traditional naming style.

i used to name based off (greek) mythology solely but i'm not a fan of that now aha. i have a lot of names from places or ancient geography (damascus, marmara, minoa, lisboa, avon, rodanthe), i have natural names (spicebush, kudzu, ambergris), and then i have kinda random ones like interferometry (a method to make measurements) and pastoria (a king of oz). i love taking insp from all over and i try to tailor names specifically, but of course this means i have lots of bwabies waiting to find a true name </3
