TOPIC | newbies: do old dragons feel attainable?
1 2 3 4
how old does a dragon have to be to classify as an "oldie" to you?
do you find any appeal to having an older dragon? if so, what do you like about them?
do you care about how many years they've been around, what element they are, or how many digits are in their ID?
does acquiring an oldie feel within your reach?
does their attainability have any effect on your desire to own one?
if you had an oldie, would you want to keep them as they are, or change their colors/genes/breed? if you already have oldies, what do you like to do with them?

if you're not a newbie but still want to weigh in, feel free to talk about how you felt about oldies as a newbie (lol), and/or how your views may have changed since then!

thanks in advance for your opinions :)

I wouldn't mind having a low ID for the coolness factor, but no where near enough to pay for one

Definitely not a newbie anymore but this is my thoughts from when I was:

-Classified them as old by digits, as I learned early on via lurking in the forums what old was determined by

-As a newbie I didn't see the appeal but now I sort of get why people like them (still don't go out of my way to buy them though). Basically I didn't care if they were old or not—I flipped several oldies back in the day bc I didn't care for their colors/genes and didn't want to spend money fixing them (plus they were fodder grabs so I wasn't attached)
Only regret, I could've kept them to make more stonks later on.

-Didn't care about anything but appearance of a dragon back then (and now really lol)

-More so back then than now. Nowadays even 7 digits can go for a lot. Really glad I kept a few of the 6 digits I did manage to collect over the years...

-How easy they are to obtain didn't really matter to me back then but now it definitely puts me off wanting them. So much easier to spend my funds on other projects than to buy what would probably be another one.

-Newbie me might've been more willing to keep them as is. Current me shoved them in the hibden with a plan to possibly regene and/or scatter them and then let them gather dust for years while I try to go through all my projects

Overall, my views haven't changed much. I never did and still don't go out of my way to find and collect them. However, now if I do get one somehow (I'll admit, I think most of mine came from users leaving the site rather than me buying them), I'm much more likely to keep it and fix them up. Definitely wouldn't exalt and would likely avoid waiting around for them to sell in the current dragon market.

I just never held much stock in IDs. Yes, low digits are cool, they have history and special IDs can look neat. But for me it's the dragon's appearance and if I find joy in them that decides if I keep them. ID is just a number and more than likely I won't even really be looking at it so I don't care to spend more on a dragon just for a string of numbers.

7 digits are still very much affordable to a newcomer imo

I mean, lower 8 digits are considered old by some groups, and they usually do not go for more than 100kt, which is quite obtainable for a newbie. 7 digits are more expensive, but they're not definitely not as expensive as 6 digits and lower.

I remember when I was a newbie, I thought 7 digits and lower were considered old (especially 6 digits and lower, since there wasn't much demand for 7 digits back then). It's weird to think some people think low 8 digits are old now...

It’s kinda odd for me as an older player to realise how old some of my oldest dragons actually are, like they would be starting primary school this year and aren’t even 6/7 digits like that blew my mind

It was super weird to come back to FR after a 7 year hiatus to find out that suddenly all my dragons were worth a chunk of change?? I had no idea until I started posting on the forums about some of them. Even then, I think I've only parted with 3 of my old since I returned.

Thanks to the hibden, at least it doesn't feel like a waste to hang on to them now. Some of them are definitely not the prettiest lmao. But now I'm making projects to re-gene them and get them all decorated up so they can just be my happy lil oldies family.

im not teeechnically a newbie, but thinking about it i've only actually spent a total of 4-5 months active (half of which were back in 2020), so...

> 4 years or older is enough to count as an oldie for me!

> i don't really care for low IDs or element or anything (unless they're REALLY low, though those would probably be too expensive), i just like the funny grampa dragons

> the very old ones (beneath 8 digits) don't feel all that attainable to me, although that's probably because i'm constantly either poor or saving for lair slots

> i have one dragon i count as an oldie named rocket, who is five years old, though i haven't come up with any gene ideas for him yet. ill probably leave him as is honestly, he looks just fine with triple basic

I'm not so much of a newbie now, I've been active for about a year I think??

I used to think that they were totally unattainable for sure, but now that I have a grasp on the game I think they are actually possible
not for me, because I could never save up that much, but if I put my mind to it then yeah!!

mostly because I actually discovered the accent market recently lol (I haven't earned much from my own accents yet, I've only made two after all, but after signing up for GASP I see retired accents going for absolutely INSANE prices and I think if I ever decided to get into that I could gain money fairly quickly??)

I mean. I am an oldie in a way so this might be slightly skewed now, but-

Oldies to me were 4/5 digits when I joined; the 6 digits were still entirely obtainable, although I had zero clue that they were valuable until like. Two years into playing and by then prices started to jump up.

To me, the appeal to the older dragons is that it's like having a piece of FR history in my lair! Especially considering the fact that there's so few available dragons from the first 3/4 years on site people are still willing to trade. I personally don't care how many years they've been around or their element. In terms of digits, I'm excited when I get my hands on anything low 7 digits or lower.

Can I acquire an oldie? Yes. But I like the ones I have and unless the colors are right (or Gen1 or low offspring list) I'm not super interested in getting more.

I've kept most of my oldies as they are, though there were a couple that I've scattered just because the aesthetic wasn't right for me. With the ones I do have, I've incorporated them into my lore and kept their age as a point of interest because it is cool!

In conclusion-

When I started; oldies were 4/5 digits, 6 digits just starting to become valuable.

Now; anything below the 7mil range, but definitely anything prior to 6 digits.
