Been noodling on this for a couple of days now; if the refresh trick in Coli stopped working after the first battle (because I'm not evil, at least, not on purpose), how do y'all think the meta would change? Like, I'm pretty sure Coli was originally designed for players having to lose 2 food points for entering and then backing out of a battle, so if that returned? Especially if it returned in exchange for the CAPTCHA going poof, since you couldn't run a bot as easily/for as long?
Personally, I think we would see a lot more bulk on Flyer-class builds, if they still existed at all. Also, potions and boss familiar prices would both shoot way up because the first would be more needed and the second would be harder to get. You would also just generally have to pay a bit more attention and take fewer risks, in order to not wipe your team's energy...
There is a distinct reason that this is in FRD and not Suggestions; Coli doesn't need to be made more inaccessible in any way shape or form. But, I find this fun to think about and wanted some others' thoughts too.

As someone who wished food was more prevalent for me and not just an extra button to click once, I'd be down for it, but I know so few people wouldn't be.

I'd stop playing coli less often/all together :p
Part of the reason I coli is to feed my dragons, so if I'm losing energy from coli and can't leave a battle in any other way, that would defeat the point lmao
It wouldn't be worth it for me!! Cursed alternate timeline!!!! Horrific!!!

Refreshing used to cost energy, but the coli was so buggy that they took it out to stop penalising people who couldn't fight on through no fault of their own (looking at you, polaroid bug).
It didn't make a huge difference to play - you just took fewer risks. Food is extremely plentiful if you're an exalter or coli regularly, so refeeding slightly more often isn't a big deal.

If I need to leave I press flee because I feel bad doing anything else lol, but i mean i dont think the meta would change all that much tbh

I wouldn't care too much about it, honestly. I probably get more food points in one or two rounds of coli then I would lose by hitting flee.

Huh, interesting to think about. A "penalty" for refreshing the first battle.
I have so much food points though, that it wouldn't really be an issue?
I switched to a crystal pools trainer for the fest, which is a lot less reliable than my flyer (possibly due to the flight? Lightning? unsure.), and I am.. not super great about backing out of battles before my team wipes. I can't handle bars that aren't at 100% so i feed my trainer after each wipe <,,< still, I think I get more food than I can use. Especially from when I go to farm a lower level for hibden stuff or whatever.

i've been letting my team wipe because leaving the page in the middle of a battle bugs out the tab, and i've not had any issues with food, even with a 2-fodder kelp beds trainer, so i don't think it would affect anyone that has a functional coli team.
really, at worst you stick a lv25 in the training fields or another low-level venue for a bit, and you end up with more food than you can eat anyway.
I was there for Lorwolf beta and, lemme tell you, if every battle consumed energy, I would never play in the Coliseum again. That is extremely time- and patience-consuming, especially if you don't want to lose your items so you can't automatically convert stuff.
Just for backing out or losing...well, I don't really do that so it wouldn't change much.

Nothing to add really just seconding this!
I wasn't there for this but I joined shortly after, when a lot of users remembered, and iirc it SEEMED like there wasn't a huge difference IF the coli was working right lol. But there were definitely fewer builds at the time-- I think OP is right, there WERE fewer flyers, but it might have just been because other builds hadn't been discovered/popularized yet.
For a while I thought they might bring that feature back, so I've made my peace with it-- feeding 3 dragons a little bit isn't that big of a deal for me and my play style, it honestly probably wouldn't change that much for me haha
