Within? At?
:thinking:

Also where did the name Sornieth come from
I'm not judging, I just want to know

You're "on" a planet, you're "in" a country or continent.

Maybe Sornieth is a derivative of the word "Soar"?

I guess the question here, then, is:
Is Sornieth the name of the planet, or just the continent? If just the continent, what planet are we on? :thonk:

Soar is a good idea though! Might be part of the inspiration.

maybe sornieth is both?

The cartographers stuff hints at another continent but not well explored so maybe to the dragons this might as well as be all there is. Whats the point of naming the land and planet separately when that's the only known land?

@ENDragon6
My counterargument to that would be Arcane flight xD I'm sure they've got names for lots of things none of the other flights care about, so I can't imagine they didn't bother naming themselves if no one else did at any point in history.

Good point on it potentially being both, but that makes the question all the more confusing LOL

@foxshapedshadows well that also brings up who's perspective are we seeing all of this from? As a compilement of lore from all flights as a whole, why would a detail specific to Arcane be mentioned when the other 10 flights, as you said, likely don't care? Idk just something to think about. But yeah I could see maybe multiple names in arcane alone for the same thing lol. Could probably start arguments that way
Sornieth is the name of the planet. The continent as a whole does not have a given name because to the dragon clans, it IS the world.
source It would be "on" Sornieth. The name is draconic for "our planet" according to this post (last question listed), but we have no clue where staff came up with it I don't think. Earth, wind, water, and fire flights have their own names for the planet, but no confirmation on anything to do with arcane.

@ENDragon6
It may not have been a public record or anything, but just the concept that some kind of organization has an official name for the planet would be good enough for me LOL

@ufology
Oh neat! I didn't know that staff answered that question before :0 Thank you for your insight and for the references!
I really love this answer, it adds so much character to the lore of flight rising and really shows off how the dragons of its universe feel about their world and everything on it. "Our gods picked this spot in particular, so this is a home worth protecting. Even claiming and warring over with the beastclans." It may be kind of simple and foundational, sure, but it's a neat lil nugget that makes me wonder about the more minute details of dragon civilization (both overall and within distinct flights) that we don't get from the dragon breed articles and the Bounty of the Elements short stories. I may have to go back and read some of the old Q&A stuff, you never know what kind of gold lore nuggets are in there just waiting to be found! So much inspiration just there for the taking! :000

I've only ever heard anyone use in sornieth despite it being basically their earth. Saying on sornieth sounds weird to me. I've always used it like within the realm of rather than on the planet. Like being in Faerie, not on Faerie.
