Through hatcheries/sales forums? Auction House? With specific search parameters, or just browsing randomly?
When I first started, I would browse through whatever the Auction House displayed by default. I'd go hundreds of pages deep without even noticing. Eventually, I switched to filtering for specific tertiary genes, or breeds. But when I look back at some of my oldest dragons, it feels like I've been missing out on unique things outside of what I'd consider my normal aesthetic, due to the filters.
So, I was curious to know what methods everyone else uses, in order to find things that they'd want to buy.

im a g1 lair, so i mostly browse the bargain bin (g1s 50g<) in the auction house with a wide color search. almost my entire lair has either been hatched myself, gifted to me, or bought for under 100g :)

I do AH searches when I get bored. Sometimes that means I come back with a new dragon...
Most of the time, I'll browse the AH for G1s in color schemes that I like. If something new pops up, I may buy it if I have the funds on hand (or send a message requesting a hold).
On very rare occasion, I've done dragon searches. Those have mostly been to find dragons for breeding projects (and going through people's fodder bins and checking and re-checking to be sure they're going to be okay with random messages). The times it wasn't for breeding projects has been for extremely specific G1s - hatched on a particular day, or meeting a narrow color criteria.

I'm not usually looking to buy new dragons
for them. Let me explain.
I hang out in Scry Shop a lot, most often trying to salvage a g1 color combo for me/somebody else, or maybe playing with a new gene set. Sometimes I find something really neat!
You know how often that really neat thing actually exists? Well... let me tell you by proxy. One of my pairs had a 8+ color range in each slot after finding a better parent (
these two dragons are half-siblings). One I just got a
decent next-gen kid from today had one parent who was 13 off in the primary.
One of my projects took from 2016 to 2021 (though, that one had some issues with sunk cost fallacy stuff and also depression).
So uh, I do a lot of breeding projects, and mostly get dragons to help with that. Sometimes I'll do fodder saves though!

this, but i also liked (because i don't keep any more permas unless it's a gift from a special person or a g1 atm) to buy some dragons from hatcheries. i've had a hatchery and i know how hard it is to sell dragons. mostly from small threads with pretty much no pinglist at all, who knows, maybe it will make someone's day a bit better!
but when i'm too lazy i just (used to) go to the auction house and check the fodder floor for pretties. i love doing fodder rescues and i would have a thread for it if my attention span wasn't a disaster lol
