I have some ideas i’d like to run by y’all
I believe that dragons age much like crocodiles. They just get bigger and bigger during their life until they pass. To Ancient Dragons are Much bigger than thier younger counterparts
This is their average life expectancy without a clan or medicine
spiral- 50-75 years
(they get longer with age)
Skydancer- 75-90 years
Bogsneak- 85 years
Fae- 5 years
Mirror- 40-50 years
Aberration- 20-30 years
Ridgeback- 100-400 years
Tundra- 90-100 years
Gaolar- 100-300 years
Guardian- 400-600 years
Pearl- 60-80 years
Imperial- 200-500 years
Snapper- 80-100 years
Obelisk- 70-90 years
Nocturne- 100-120 years
Veilspun- 1 year
Coatl- 1000 years
(i like to think that they are very slow growers)
Banescale- 100-300 years
Wildclaw- 60-100 years

They/Them
We do actually have canon data on Imperials- it fluctuates WILDLY, so they never know when they're gonna kick the bucket. Plays into the whole "can accidentally become zombies" thing that leads to their culture being very reserved, really.
Other than this, I can vibe with all of these except Veils. Veils are the fey- they are ancient creatures of magic that aren't well-understood, so I'd think that they often live a very long time...
Unless you're pulling this from the "loner Veils go into torpor and RIP", in which case, fair.

I often process thoughts by writing... Trying to TL;DR more.

this is a nice take, i like it!
but it always makes me think about death. in a society where every breed interacts with one another on a pretty much daily basis, i feel like you'll learn not to attach to people too much, as a lot of your friends and family will just die, and die quite a lot and quite fast OR you'll die pretty soon yourself
i have a tundra x fae couple, for example. i think it will be a pain for my tuntun to live in a world with such lifespans.
upd: it's like a pet death situation, now when i think about it. except the "pet" is not only your family member, but also a sapient creature and maybe a somewhat contributor, inventor, a useful member of a dragonkind. sad.

I have a bunch of Wildclaw/Coatl pairs so it's sad to think the wildclaw would only be around for about 1/10th of their mate's life
I also have an entire family I started 5-6 years ago with at least 6-7 generations of various breeds of dragons all living together, so trying to math out ages makes my brain hurt lol

OMG same??? i currently have a gen1 and their gen4 relatives in the same space and time and since my approach to the lore is more sitcom-ish and i have somewhat of a status quo i have no idea how time and lifespans could work

this subject has come up like twice on the days I've been wanting to mention this REALLY old Q&A bit, so might as well finally mention it for the sake of discussion:
Admittedly it's not about lifespans, but it does put a measurement on growth times, which is helpful for figuring out the rest of a dragon's years out.
FR time is a bit wierd when it comes to dragon ages. A baby dragon growing to adult size could take anywhere from 5 years to 50 years depending on the species. Ours do it in 15-35 days >.>; Haha. So you’ll have to use your imagination for how fast they actually grow, because the game’s system set up so that our players don’t have to wait 5 years to have adult dragons.
Since we're supposed to use our imaginations, I'd like to chalk it up to rarity, which would make Plentiful breeds like Fae/Mirror/Tundra/Guardians have the shortest growth times AND lifespans, but Rare breeds like Coatls and Wildclaws have the longest.
But that's just me. I would love reading other interpretations on this though.

Local Overthinker, He/Him, Pings and notifications are fine.
I think all of these are way too short, especially Veilspun and Fae.
But I never really thought about it. In my personal lore, everyone is dead and a ghost anyway, and in-game they never die, so I just never thought about lifespans.

I think dragons pretty much live forever unless they get severely injured or diseased.
Also, if a Fae's lifespan is that short then my boy Florian would be considered ancient, lol.

Agree
