TOPIC | What does "no fodder" mean?
1 2
Sometimes I see posts on Find a Dragon where the user states that they specifically do not want to be shown fodder dragons. But I'm a little confused on what that means. None of my dragons are sold for the fodder floor price, because I plan to exalt them myself if they don't sell by the time they're grown. I just have too little storage space to be keeping dragons on the AH once they're adults. So inevitably they end up leveled and on exalt row. Would that constitute as fodder?

Or does it specifically mean dragons that are being sold for fodder price? (which I don't think last long enough for someone to advertise on Find a Dragon anyway?)

Is it referring to people who flip fodder dragons?

Is it referring to dragons that are already leveled for exalt?

I am confusion.

Probably all of the above for different people :D

We'd assume that they mean dragons bred purposely to be trained and exalted where maybe (not always) there's less focus on making popular looking babies since it doesn't really matter.
Some users buy fodder and try to rehome them so that would probably count too.
You can't train dragons until they're adults so if someone wanted maximum money they could spend 5 days advertising their fodder just in case someone is willing to pay more for it than they'd get exalting.

If you're purposely trying to breed nice pairs and just exalt them when you run out of room or you've had them too long we wouldn't consider that fodder. Some other people might though.
If your dragons meet the other requirements of the Find a Dragon thread you could probably post them anyway. No way for the poster to know any potential future plans for the dragons unless you tell them.

Strange to me...any dragon can be fodder

I always relate the word fodder to dragons that just have ugly, unfixable colour combos, I apply this to both hatchlings or adult dragons.

Though I would add that I breed nice-looking dragons for the sake of fodder, just so they don't look out of place in my lair, something that bothers me alot.

I also relate fodder as derogatory only to objectively ugly dragons that were bred with no intention of making a nice baby behind it.

I like to try and breed somewhat pretty fodder babies: just to not stare at ugly dragons every time i need to hatch a nest. But still, i mostly just put together overdone color combos that are so common that I can find two unrelated ones like wine/fire xx/y

I assume they want to be shown dragons that were bred with at least a potential to be bought for a good price: rarer color combos and newer genes ? Rather than just "lucky finds" in a regular fodder nest.

I hate it when people use the term 'no fodder' because at the end of the day any dragon can be fodder, even that one someone may think is super pretty

However, I do think they're mostly talking about un-matchy colored dragons that most would not consider generically pretty. I also take it to mean they don't want dragons with basic genes

It's a very arbitrary statement due to the subjectivity of what "fodder" is.

Instead of writing "no fodder" or "no ugly dragons", I try to articulate my criteria as best I can: "No basic genes, XYZ only, complimentary colour combos only, no browns mixed with other colours, plentiful breeds", etc. The more specific you are, the more it helps others understand what you're looking for.

Imagination is the reality of our dreamscape.
I've always assumed it to mean dragons you intentionally bred to be exalted or just mass produced / easy to find color combos. Just anything you can find for super cheap on AH.

Since if someone is looking for dragons on forums, it typically means they want something they haven't been able to find on AH.

But since we do have so many dragons it really does make it confusing. Since even g1 dragons could be considered fodder.

Oh jeez my understanding of that phrase was way off. I was interpreting it to mean "if you're going to AH hunt dragons for my criteria, avoid fodder, because it gets bought and exalted so quickly that by the time you recommend it to me and I see it it'll be gone."
