Welcome to all the new FR users, it's always nice to see new faces! Here's some helpful answers to questions newbies before you have asked! Ask Azaylium any dominance questions. :)

If you have questions not answered here, post them below and I'll add it to the list! ^-^

Q: What are these two dragons sitting in my lair?

A: These are your progenitors, or progens. The one you created is called a custom progen, and the one that was randomly created is called your random progen. These two are first generation dragons, or first gens/gen ones, meaning they have no parents. These two dragons have three colors, but is basic/basic/basic (meaning there are no genes that create designs on your dragons). I would recommend you to not exalt your progens, you will earn no profit from it at all, and you can't get them back. If you have no idea what exalting is, check out Aspyria's post below this.

Q: What is the third color on my custom progen? I never picked it out.

A: This is a tertiary color. You don't pick out the tertiary color, it is randomly chosen. When the tertiary gene is basic, you can't see the tertiary color. You have to have a gene for it to be seen.

Q: What are the genes?

A: There are three general kind of genes: primary, secondary, and tertiary genes. The primary genes show different designs on your dragon's body, head, arms, and legs. The secondary genes show different designs on the wings of your dragon. The tertiary gene just highlights different areas on the dragons. If you need extra help on understanding genes, check out the gene page in the Encyclopedia.

Q: What are the nesting grounds?

A: The nesting grounds are where you can breed two different dragons of opposite gender. When you put two dragons on a nest, a random number of eggs from 1-5 will generate in the nest. It will take 5 days for the nest to incubate and hatch, but you must remember to click incubate every day, including the day you put the dragons on a nest.

Q: Why can't I breed some of my dragons right now?

A: It takes a certain amount of days until a dragon can breed, it's called a "Breeding Cooldown." If you go to the dragon lair and look at your progens, they will have a cross over an egg icon under their picture. The breeding cooldown differs for every breed. For guardians, it is 15 days. For coatls, it is 35. After you breed two dragons, their breeding cooldown resets, and you have to wait another 15-35 days depending on the cooldown before you can breed them again. Another reason why you might not be able to breed them is because they are related to each other within 5 generations. To prevent this, you can check if the dragons are too related in the Assay Bloodlines section of the Scrying Workshop.

Q: What are breeds?

A: Breeds are the types of dragons. There are many different breeds of dragons. You can check them all out in the dragon breed section of the Encyclopedia. Some breeds are more rare than others.

Q: What do I do in the "Gather Items" section?

A: Essentially, you gather items. You can choose whether to hunt, fish, catch insects, forage for plants, dig for materials, or scavenge for trinkets. For your first few weeks, I recommend you to hunt/fish/insect catch/forage so you can obtain food in order to feed your dragons. The only exception to this is when there are festivals, which I will explain in a later question. You can also choose what flight you gather in. Different areas will yield you different items. There is a specific number of times you can gather, they are called gathering turns. The number of gathering turns ranges from 10 to 20.

Q: I have food but I can't feed my dragons. Why?

A: You have to convert your food into food points. If you go to your hoard, you can convert your food into food points. Just click the checkbox for the food you want to convert, and click the convert button. Then you can go to your dragon lair and click the "feed" button to feed your dragons. If you look at the top red bar, it will show you how many meat, insect, seafood, and plant food points you have. Different breeds of dragons eat different kinds of food, so you might not need every kind of food. Some dragons also eat several types of food, so if you run out of one kind, you can still feed them.

Q: What is the Clan Profile?

A: In the clan profile, you can write down a little description of your clan, and, in many people's cases, your wishlist. You can also see your friends in the bottom right corner. On the right side, you can see some of your user information. Underneath your clan description, you can see the most recent achievements you've gotten them. Under your recent achievements, you can see any comments that people have made on your userpage.

Q: Can you please explain the top right corner of the page?

A: This corner is pretty important. On the top is your username, and on the left of that is your avatar dragon. On the right of your username is an arrow, and if you click that, a drop down menu pops up. I'll explain that in the next question. Under your username is a bar that shows a percentage. If the percentage is over 80%, you get a bit of treasure, 5 extra gathering turns, and one gem for free each days. To keep the percentage up, just keep your dragons fed. If you keep the percentage up, you get 15 gathering turns, and if not, you only get 10. Under the bar is the amount of treasure, gems, familiars, and achievement points.

Treasure: the regular currency of FR, used to buy tons of items.
Gems: the premium currency of FR, used to buy pretty much any rare item.
Familiars: pets for your dragons you can collect. (I will make explain familiars in a later question)
Achievement points: When you get achievements, you get points for them. They don't really do much, just shows how many achievements you've gotten. To see all the achievements, click the star under the book in the top right corner of every page.

Q: What is the drop down menu next to my username?

A: When you click the arrow, several options pop up. The first, "Clan Profile," leads to your clan profile. The second, "Change Avatar," lets you change your avatar to whatever adult dragon you would like. The third, "Add Gems," leads you to the Purchase Gems section where you can buy gems with money. The fourth, "Account settings," lets you see a lot of account info. The fifth, "Redeem Code," lets you enter in promotional codes for items. The last, "Logout," lets you log out of your account.

Q: What is the hoard?

A: The hoard is where all your items are. It organizes all your items into categories.

Q: Can you explain what familiars are and how to use them?

A: Familiars are pets that you can collect. If you go to the bestiary, it can tell you all the kinds of familiars there are, and which ones you have. you can put familiars on your dragons. Go to your Dragon Lair and click on one of your dragons. In the bottom right corner, there will be a familiar box. Click the "change" button, and you can choose what familiar you want to put on them. If you have two glowing pocket mice, you can only put one on a dragon at a time. Every day, you just click the heart next to the familiar. You will get a bit of treasure every day, and you will fill the bar next to the heart button after a few days. After you fill up the bar, you get chests. Every time you get a chest, the bar resets, but it takes a longer time to fill it up. After filling up the bar many times, you will get to the Loyal stage, where you will get a gilded decorative chest. You can get apparel, materials, trinkets, familiars, treasure, and gems from chests.

Q: What do you do in Messages?

A: You can receive and send messages to other players. Here, you can also trade any items, but not dragons.

Q: What is the marketplace?

A: The marketplace is where you can buy items for treasure or gems. Usually, the gem marketplace holds many rare and valuable items, while the treasure marketplace can just give you items that aren't of much value (though some treasure marketplace items are pretty valuable. It is organized like the hoard, except there are specialty items. Specialty items are gene and breed change scrolls. You can use gene/breed change scrolls on any of your dragons, and the gene/breed will be permanently applied unless another scroll is used. However, the scrolls are one-use only. They will disappear after used.

Q: What is the Auction House?

A: The Auction House is essentially a place where you can sell/buy anything you have or want: dragons, familiars, trinkets.

Q: What is the Trading Post?

A: The trading post is a place for a lot of activity. I will explain in the following questions.

Q: What is the cauldron on the far right?

A: This is Baldwin. You can transmute your items and turn them into materials. With these new transmuted materials, you can create all kinds of items. As you transmute and create, you gain experience and gain levels to create even more items.

Q: What is the huge pile of items next to Baldwin?

A: This is Pinkerton. Basically, he gives you one free item per day. It could be valuable, it could be worthless.

Q: What are the table and crates next to Pinkerton?

A: This is Crim. She LOVES collecting, so she'll ask for your items and give you treasure in return. Crim will ask for 5 of your items every hour.

Q: Who resides in the huge stone tablet next to Crim?

A: Tomo and her note-taking buddy Scribbles live here. They ask you ten questions about FR everyday, and if you get it right, you get treasure!

Q: What's the last stopping point in the Trading Post?

A: This is Swipp. Swipp will ask for your items in exchange for rare items. For example, he will ask for 250 black tulips, and if you give him it, you will get a black tulip flowerfall. Swipp changes his trade every 2 hours.

Q: What are the Crossroads?

A: Here, you can trade dragons for treasure/gems/dragons. It's only for trading dragons, not items.

Q: What is a skin?

A: A skin is a design that covers your dragon's entire body when equipped.

Q: What is an accent?

A: An accent is a skin, but it only covers up to 30% of the dragon's body, so you can still see genes and colors.

Q: Can I make my own skins and accents?

A: Yes you can! Just go to the Custom skin section and buy a skin/accent blueprint, then design to your heart's content. :D Be warned, though, the blueprints cost a fair amount of gems.

Q: What is the "Festive Favors" shop? Why is it closed?

A: The festive favors shop is where you can buy festival items with your festival currency. It only opens one week per month, for festivals.

Q: Wait, what? What are festivals?

A: Every month, there is a festival for a specific flight. Every flight gets one week dedicated to their deity and flight. In this week, you should dig in whatever flight's festival it is. You can get festival currency from digging. Festival currency is currency for that flight's festival ONLY. Every flight has their own type of currency. Also, from digging, you can rarely obtain festival chests. These chests contain skins/accents from the festival they are from. Every festival has their own items that stock in the festive favors shop for the week. There, you can use your currency to buy them. Every festival, skins and accents designed by players are chosen to be in the festival. You can buy whichever ones you want in the treasure marketplace. Festivals are the only time that there are skins in the treasure marketplace. Whatever flight the festival is for gets dominance for that week.

Q: Hold up! What is dominance?

A: My friend, Aspyria has answered all of your dominance questions below.

Q: What are the Fairgrounds?

A: The fairgrounds has a ton of fun games for you to earn treasure. The cap for the amount of treasure you can earn per day is 75000.

Q: What is the Coliseum?

A: The coliseum is where you can put max 3 dragons from your lair (They MUST be named) onto a team and fight monsters. You can level them and add battle stones to make them strong. Coli is a good way to earn familiars and loot. Also, during festivals, coli drops festival currency and rarely, festival chests. For more info, check out the other guides below. I added a few about coli.

Q: What are the forums?

A: Basically, you can talk to the other FR members here about all sorts of things! The community is really nice, so you should have no trouble at all!

Q: What is the World Map?

A: The world that the dragons are living in is called Sornieth, a land which is composed of 11 different lands. These represent each flight of flight rising. If you click on one of the continents, it will describe the different areas in that continent.

Q: What is the Scrying Workshop?

A: The next three questions will answer this.

Q: What is the Assay Bloodlines?

A: You can't breed any two dragons that are related within 5 or less generations. Here, you can make sure that they are breedable.

Q: What is the Foresee Progeny?

A: You can put in the ID of two dragons here, and see what their babies, if bred, could look like.

Q: What is the Predict Morphology?

A: You can make literally any kind of dragon here. You could create an imaginary dragon from scratch, or take someone/your dragon and change it into whatever you like! However, these changes will not be created, it only makes you sad that you cannot have them.

Q: What is the Encyclopedia?

A: Flight Rising has a ton of useful information in the encyclopedia, so make sure you check it out!

Q: How can I make treasure fast?

A: Sometimes it can be hard to make treasure quickly. There are several ways to quickly make money:

~bond with familiars
~play games in fairgrounds
~farm in the coliseum to get good items
~sell some of your items

Questions from your fellow FR players:
@ Plushnoodle How does earning the honor guard achievement work? I have a fae with anticipate, but I'm not sure how the "guard others under its affects" bit works. I click anticipate on her first turn and defend on her second. I assume she then needs to block a hit aimed at another team member in order to earn points towards the achievement. However, I've notice she never has the wing icon and defense badge active by her health bar at the same time whether I use anticipate or defend first. Am I going about this the right way? Or do I need to use the stone differently?
A: You don't use defend to guard an ally, you use the battle stone guard. [item=guard]
@ Plushnoodle What would be the rarities for gene combos? If that makes any sense, i have been trying to figure it out of course the newer ones would be rare, but there has to be some others i think. i have heaps of circuit and shimmer and iridescent dragon combo genes and was wondering if there were any better ones.
A: Actually, new genes aren't necessarily rarer than the old genes, it really depends. For example, the newest tert gene, Glimmer, is still less rare than spines and circuit. If you would like different combos of genes, the only choice would be to stud/buy dragons with the genes you want. Iridescent and shimmer have high priority, so babies will likely have them (unless a higher priority gene is present, such as basic). You can visit the Gene page in the Encyclopedia or the Breeding page in the Encyclopedia for reference.
@ Plushnoodle Is it possible to "un-do" the action of locking your stones? I clicked it with the missunderstanding that i could "un-do" it, and I basically doomed one of my poor babies to constantly getting defeated in every battle, because they don't have appropriate stones for them!
A:You cannot undo the locking, meaning you never get those stones back after you unlock them, but you can put the stones you like on them and just lock it again. You will never get stones back after locking them though. Basically, just put the stones you want on top of the ones you locked, and lock it again. :)
Why do some people ask that you not exalt the dragons that they give you?
A: Exalting means that dragon will go to serve your deity forever. You can never get a dragon back after exalting it. :) Usually, people exalt to get rid of dragons they don't want, and to earn some money. When people sell dragons and don't want others to exalt, they want their dragons to go to loving homes where they can be cared for, and not just be exalted forever.
When exalting, does the element of the dragon make a difference, or are the points tallied by clan element? In other words, if I'm in the fire flight and exalt a lightning dragon.. does fire or lightning get the points?
A: You exalt the dragon to your own deity, the dragon's element doesn't matter :) The things that do matter would be level, and color bonuses if you want profit.

Guard

What would be the rarities for gene combos?

I still have questions. What do I do?

Ping me in this thread! How do you ping? @ username (no space and fill in username) For example, if you wanted to ping me, you would type @Plushnoodle. Ping Azaylium for any dominance questions! Message or comment on my userpage!
Either way, I will post the question on the first post, and answer it.

Are you an old player with more advice or useful guides? Ping me in this thread, and I'll add it in! :)

Dominance:

Q: What is Dominance? (or Dom for short)

A: Lore-wise - Dominance is a never-ending battle between the Flights and the Beastclans (I'll answer that later), for, well, Dominance. In game-play: Dominance is essentially a competition to see which Flight can exalt the most dragons relative to the number of active Flight members (I will cover exaltation in a later question). The goal is to claim one of the top three slots by the end of the week (Saturday, around 11:40-11:50 PM server time).

Q: What is exalting?

A: Exalting is sending a dragon from your lair to live with your Flight's resident deity dragon. The action is permanent and CANNOT be reversed (if you or someone else accidentally exalted one of your dragons, then you could potentially reclaim the dragon by contacting the Admins within a week of the exaltation). In exchange for exalting a dragon, you get some treasure, and on rare occasion, gems. The higher level the exalted dragon is, the more money you get (usually dragons are exalted at Level 5 - 8 for maximum profit). Higher leveled dragons count for more towards Dominance.

Q: What is fodder?

A: Fodder is a term for dragons that are going to be exalted. Generally, fodder is bought on the Auction House for cheap (usually less than 8kT, but there are exceptions). They are either bought and exalted immediately, or are allowed to grow up, and are then trained in the Coliseum. Individual Flights may have their own names for fodder.

Q: So? Why should I care about Dom?

A: Dominance gives your entire flight bonuses for one week. Bonuses include: more Gathering Turns, lair expansion discounts, Marketplace discounts, daily treasure bonuses. Naturally, the Flight in the top slot gets the most bonuses, whereas third place gets the least bonuses. Also, you could make plenty of money by exalting dragons!

Q: How can I help?

A: You can exalt dragons. When you're pushing for Dominance, every dragon counts! You can also snipe dragons (buy cheap 4-5 day hatchlings and adults), and serve as a babysitter (hold dragons until they are ready to be trained and exalted).

Q: What should I do with hatchlings?

A: Hold them until they are ready to be trained and exalted. If you cannot do that, send them to a babysitter or exalt immediately.

Q: What should I do with adults?

A: Train and exalt them yourself, or send them on to a Trainer (someone who trains and exalts dragons).

Q: Should I name the dragons I'm exalting?

A: That's up to you. Most players on Flight Rising would prefer to NOT have Unnamed undesirably named (like Ugly, Exalt, Fodder, etc.) children in their dragons' offspring lists. If you plan to send the dragon to a Trainer or train the dragon yourself, then you MUST name the dragon (Unnamed dragons cannot enter the Coliseum). It's recommended to name your exalts until just before the weekly Dominance tallies (around 11:40-11:50 PM on Saturdays).

Q: What is Conquest Pushing?

A: Conquest Pushing is when a Flight is going for the top spot in Dominance.

Q: What is a Dom Battle?

A: A Dom Battle is when two or more flights are Conquest Pushing at the same time.

Q: What is Battle Royale?

A: Battle Royale is a Dom Battle where ALL Flights are invited (but not required) to participate.

Q: What is Profit Pushing?

A: Profit Pushing is similar to Conquest Pushing, except the Flight that is pushing is not necessarily going for the Top Spot.

Q: What are Beastclans?

A: Lore-wise: Beastclans are groups/tribes of native beings that were here in Sornieth before dragons came to be. After dragons showed up, they scattered throughout the land. Game-play: some of your Coliseum opponents are Beastclans. Beastclans also fight for Dominance, but if Beastclans claim one of the top three slots, no one gets that slot's bonuses for a week.

Q: What are Public Buys?

A: Flights that are Profit Pushing or Conquest Pushing often set up Public Buys. They are found in the "Dragons Wanted" forum and are a way for the Flight Rising community to support their favorite Flights in Dominance. Simply put: Public Buys are a way for a Conquest or Profit Pushing Flight to buy fodder.

@JadeTigerRider You don't use defend, you use the battle stone "guard" to protect an ally. :)

Thanks for being first to ask, I will add your question! :)
