TOPIC | Cross-site trading:ChickenSmoothie<->FR
1 2

ChickenSmoothie<->Flight Rising is a profitable & popular cross-site trade, but it requires some knowledge beforehand & takes a little bit of being in the right place at the right time.

I've gotten a lot of PMs & questions about CS->FR or FR->CS trades, so am plopping this guide here so it's easier to find this information all in one place on Flight Rising!

Overview/FAQ:

Q: Is cross-site trading legal on FR?
A: Cross-site trading is definitely allowed on Flight Rising! FR allows cross-site trading between FR & any site that also allows cross-site trading, as long as you are not directly trading pet site content for real world money. Here is a LINK for anyone who needs re-assurance!

Q: What's the difference between a FR->CS trade & a CS->FR trade?
A: FR->CS is turning your Flight Rising resources into ChickenSmoothie pets or items;
A: CS->FR is turning your ChickenSmoothie pets or items into Flight Rising resources.
A: FR<->CS is just the general 'it could be either way' thing I'm using for this guide, but it's not informative in an actual trade conversation.

Q: How do I advertise that I want to trade CS<->FR?
A: Make a thread on the "CS Adoptables for Other" forum section of ChickenSmoothie, HERE. Their bumping rules is just 'when you're not on the first page anymore you can bump'. It's a pretty slow forum section--when I'm actively trading I only have to bump every couple of hours--and it's much more likely to get you traffic than a thread on FR.
A: Make sure to be informative in your thread title, and be eye-catching! For instance, my thread title is "[T] ALL* CS [W] FLIGHT RISING: Fire Sprite & Currencies". The thread title character limit is more lenient on CS than it is on FR, with a character limit of 60.

Q: What's the.. 'culture' for trading on these sites?
A: Assuming that you have a CS->FR thread up, normally someone who is interested in your pets/items will contact you and ask you for a price, you'll give it to them, and then if they're okay with it, they'll ask for your FR. (Or they might haggle.) The person getting the CS pet/item almost always sends you the FR currency or items first; the only exception would be if you really trust the person and the item is timed, like event tokens. Then once you get the currency on FR, send them the pet/items! Try to keep in good communication with them the whole time so that they don't have to wait a long time in-between sending the money and getting what they paid for.
A: There are also threads where someone who wants certain CS pets will say they're looking to trade their FR resources for those pet(s); it's appropriate for you to post on their thread to see if they're interested (or PM them if they ask you not to post), and then you work normally from there. There is no pinging on ChickenSmoothie.

Q: People keep mentioning C$ when we're trading, but I don't know what that is/don't have any! What is C$ and do I need to have it?
A: C$ stands for ChickenDollars, and it is ChickenSmoothie's equivilant to Flight Rising's 'gems'.
A: You don't need any C$ to cross-site trade. However, C$ is the only measurable number on ChickenSmoothie when it comes to pet values, because most CS->CS trades are based off of how pets are relative to each other & personal value, not a solid value. Cross-site trades use C$ to value and translate pets' value from one site to another in a way that is always consistent.

Q: How do I translate a pet's CS value to it's FR value?
A: Find the pet's C$ value; then multiply it by 5.9 to get the FR gem value. (1 C$ is worth 5.9 gems). If you need the treasure value, then just use the current gem:treasure ratio on FR once you have the gem value.

Q: Say something happens and I get scammed even though I was careful; is there anything I can do?
A: Flight Rising will not get involved in user-trades; so you will not be able to contact FR for support if someone does not hold their end of the cross-site bargain. ChickenSmoothie, however, is very reliable and will always do their best to rectify any scammed trades on their side if you can give them proof. Here is a LINK to their policy & a LINK to their advice on safe trading.

Q: I'm trying to participate in a CS event and their clock is really weird.... what time zone do they go by?
A: ChickenSmoothie runs on Greenwich Mean Time (+0000); here is a LINK to their on-site clock. I always link the clock on my forum posts if I have a time-sensitive thing going on, because most CS users are NOT on CS time. ....please participate in the events by the way they're really profitable.

Q: There's a trade rules option in the trading center; should I talk about my FR stuff in there?
A: Uh you can if you want but no one reads them omg

Q: I'm awesome & tried to link someone a forum link on CS so that I could help them, but the link isn't working! What's going on?
A: Any CS forum links will BREAK off-site. In order to link someone to a CS forum off-site, you will need to turn the forum link into a *******. You can find the ******* generator HERE. Make sure to let them know in case they're naturally suspicious of tinyUrls.

Actually figuring out how much FR your CS (or visa versa) is worth is honestly the main meat of cross-site trading, and why it can be stressful if you're not quite sure what you're doing. Once you have everything valued the trading goes pretty smoothly.

Older pets, older items, event, and 'brand new, popular' pets are going to be worth the most, but it's still worth getting everything you can just in case. Pet/Item Valuing How-To:

The conversion rate for everything CS->FR is: C$*5.9=FR GEMS ; gems can then be converted into treasure with the current gem:treasure ratio if you wish.
C$ & gems are used because they're stable values that rarely ever change. Some traders me will round to 6 instead or use a custom ratio preferred by personal experience, but 5.9 is the FR Club stated official.

To start out, you're going to want to find the C$ value of your pet/item. There are general guidelines for finding the C$ values, but only about a hundred or so list pets have a concrete value; most pets are general.

Valuing Pets

You can find the C$ value guide for pets HERE; the first post has all list pet tiers listed out, and the second post covers other, general pets. If you have list pets to value, or want to see if you have any, you're going to want to check this thread LINK because it lists every single list pet instead of only the first of each tier.

This spreadsheet LINK by @DerbyGirl was created specifically for CS->FR trading & has values for all list pets via the C$*5.9 rate, and a reference for some non-list values at the bottom!

I've quoted some info from the second post of the general C$ guide for non-lists here:

Valuing Items

For ITEMS , the guide for valuing them in C$ is HERE. Items have less demand than pets a lot of the time, but can be just as expensive. The item guide is very in-depth; I've quoted some of their more abridged advice on how to value here:

It's true that 'older' pets tend to be a lot more valuable than 'newer' pets, and it can be discouraging to start out as a new player on CS to trade for FR if you don't have the resources an older player can have.

The good news is that there are annual events across the calendar that can help you get cross-site demand regardless of how old your account is! As long as your account is one month old, and you've made a forum post before that has been approved so got your foruming privileges, you should be good to go for all of them.

Extra Opportunities:

Token Events

Every Easter, Mid-Summer, & Halloween, there are token events on ChickenSmoothie. Token events are where, every 20 minutes, a banner can appear on the bottom of CS pages; when you click on it, it'll give you an item that can be used as either a pet accesory, or a token to trade for pets that are event exclusive.

You can find banners on the bottom of your pet group pages, so it's advisable to just make an empty pet group, and then whenever your banner cooldown is done, refresh that page until you get a banner. It normally takes about 2 to 10 refreshes. If you miss a banner by accident, you can't back-space to a page with a banner and will have to refresh until you get another one.

Tokens can be traded between users, so if you don't want to trade tokens for event exclusive pets, you can instead make a thread on the "CS Adoptables for Other" forum selling tokens for FR treasure/gems! The tokens go for anywhere between 3-6C$ (18-36 gems) depending on how late/early it is in the event, and generally no tokens are worth more than others when selling for cross-site, but some might be in less demand. You can auction them instead, but CS people generally don't want to bid on less than 100% of tokens, so if you have too many it's a bit dangerous.

When a token event ends, there will still be 3-5 days after the event ends to trade in tokens. Normally this period where no new tokens can be gained is when I decide to sell my stash of tokens, because people are still trading and my token pool won't change unless people buy. You could also just sell your tokens as you get them during the event for a greater profit per token, or even find someone who's interested in buying 'all' your tokens daily!

Keep in mind though that after the trade-end point, your tokens will have no value (they don't disappear though), so if you have them with only a couple hours left before they expire you may want to trade them for pets, give them away, or even be willing to trade someone the items before they give you FR currency.

December Advent & Re-Release Day

In December, there is a Christmas Advent Calendar where every CS day, a new pet/item (or both) is available to adopt. You'll want to grab as many of these as you can, because Advent pets tend to be high demand during the advent! Sometimes I find someone who wants to adopt 'all of my Advent pets' and we'll set is up so that every advent pet is worth _C$, with some variance if the batch was huge or the species is a rat, and then I'll just trade them all for FR currency as the holiday goes by.

December also has an adoption event on the 18th, called Re-Release Day; any accounts that are at least a month old can adopt 2 pets, that can be any possible pet that was released on the site throughout it's lifetime. (There are also a couple of pets that are released only on 18 December.)
So if you adopt a pet on December 18th, you could get a list pet, a really old pet, an NR pet (Never Released: the pets that are released only on the 18th) or just a regular pet! The pet won't tell you what litter it was from, so you'll have to look through the archives LINK to check your pet. Make sure to do that before trading it away!

September Litter

Every September, there's a staff dog litter where every artist staff draws a different dog with a selected colour scheme. Staff Litter dogs are often collectables, and there's a little user-hosted event dedicated to finding out which artist drew which dog.

Other Small Things

The 'other' species tab is generally fennec foxes. People really like fennec foxes for some reason so those tend to be popular trades, espceially PPS (Peter Pan Syndrome) fox kits.

Token Events also have the small chance of giving you a pet from a banner instead of a token; some years those are really valuable (see 2014 Halloween "Dead Dingo" dog, first dog by Tyr), other years people don't care about them that much.

Pets aren't given official rarities until a couple months after their release, but it tends to be obvious which ones are rarer than others. If you adopt a pet and you only have one of a certain outcome and/or most CS users don't have any, someone will probably want to trade for it, and it will be worth a bit more than the others of that litter.

Sometimes event pets are really stinking popular during the hype of the event and people will pay list pet worthy prices for them. (See 2014 Halloween "Joker/Devil Fox", the last one in the sketchi litter) Keep an eye out for those if you get one; their price dies down really fast once they get a rarity tag.

Shima Longtails (third dog down, by Shima-Luan) are from a 2009 litter and go for list pet prices, but helpers who regular the pricing thread can only tell you their official value--40C$--and the community refuses to officially put them on The List. If you get one of them, or any other 'high demand pet that isn't a list but goes for a list trade-wise', please don't actually trade them for 40C$. To find their value, you'll want to track their most recent auction threads and use their winning bids or auto-buys as a guideline instead. Note that auto-bids are always a bit more expensive than a pet is actually worth if you use those.

If you're interested in Clubs on ChickenSmoothie, there's an FR Club on CS HERE. Among them are the people who decide the official conversion rates & customs, and users there tend to be really involved in the FR<->CS community. It's a very fast thread and they re-make it every 900 pages, but they always re-direct to their next thread up in the first post once they move so you should be able to find it even if my link is out of date.

Here's a basic over-view of some points in the guide, as a quick-ref or tl;dr.

Overview tl;dr

Cross-site trading is legal on FR with any other site that allows cross-site trading.

Make an eye-catching thread in the "CS Adopts for Other" thread on CS to advertise you want to trade!

The person giving the currency is expected to send their side of the trade first.

C$ is used for converting & numbercrunching, but you don't actually need C$ to trade.

CS forum links will break off-site and need to be linked via a *******. Please let anyone that you send a link to know there'll be tinyUrls beforehand.

Pet/Item Valuing How-to tl;dr

The conversion rate for everything CS->FR is c$*5.9=FR GEMS (to get treasure, convert normally).

Find the C$ value of your pet/item, and then work the conversion formula from there.

Dogs are most popular; other animals (excluding fennecs) are worth less. Generally rats are worth the least.

Pets below "Rare" rarity tag sparsely have set trade values and must be estimated.

Extra Opportunities tl;dr

If you participate in Token Events, you can save all your tokens and then trade them to players for FR currency/items near the end of the event.

Token Events are Mid-Summer, Easter, & Halloween.

December Advent Calender pets are popular trades and you can sometimes set up daily trades with someone if you're pro-active.

December 18th allows you to adopt 2 pets from a random litter any time during the site (or pets that are only released on that day, if you're lucky). You can get old pets this way, so trade wisely.

The dog litter in September is a themed litter where every artist on CS makes a growable outcome. The litter is a common collectable.

Look out for pets that are wildly popular without a rarity tag yet. Some holiday pets get so popular they sell for List Pet prices while the hype is up.

Some pets, like Shimas, trade for significantly more than they're technically worth. You'll need to manually look up the trade value of these pets via auctions to get a fair dollar for yourself.

Alright I'm done, FR has a CS guide now, woop-de-do

Please feel free to post if you think I should add anything to any of the sections! It has been a very long time since I started out so it's hard remembering what the things I really asked about were, so most of my stuff is what the couple of people who have asked me wondered about.

Like, when I looked at the items guide, I mis-read it and got all confused about each item having a source, and thought that source was the price instead of the top being the price.

uh.

I guess I'll ping the folks that I helped with CS or mentioned me here so that maybe you can leave some criticism or extras! @Soupalicious @MissouriMule @merchent

I got some useful feedback on CS conversion rates & the source of the spreadsheet, so I went ahead and edited those in! I hope they help!

..also I want to space out my 'abridged guide' from the main one more.
