I decided to take my simple tips and tricks guide ( [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/gde/2582772/1#post_2582772]found here[/url] ) and blast it wide open. My main goal here is to hopefully cover any and all questions you might have about NotN, and how you can prepare for it. Maybe even learn things you never thought you wanted to know. It will cover what NotN is, what items there are and where, how to prepare for NotN, how to survive NotN with some sanity left, and some history and statistics of past NotN. [center][color=MidnightBlue][size=5][u][b]What is Night of the Nocturne:[/b][/u][/color][/size][/center] Night of the Nocturne is a 2 week long festival celebrating when Nocturne come out to play. During this time you will be able to get special familiars, apparel, nocturne breed change scroll, unhatched nocturne eggs, vistas, smirch gene scroll, and whatever else new they release this year. These items are only out during this time. You will be able to find different colors of the apparel, some vistas, and certain familiars from the treasure/gem markets, Baldwin, and Swipp. However eggs*, breed change scrolls, gene scrolls, certain colors of apparel, and most familiars will be found only in an item called [gamedb item=7690]. [item=strange chest] Strange Chest are only obtainable during the 2 weeks of NotN and will turn to dust a few days after NotN ends. So they need to be opened before the date specificed in the NotN announcement. Strange chest drop rarely when you gather, [b]All[/b] mobs in the coliseum(though special NoTN mobs have higher drop rate), brewing, and Swipp trades. Overall NotN is a wild ride to get as many chest as you can. Either to open, or make bank by selling/trading chest to people that want to open them, and this guide is here to hopefully help you do just that. *Eggs can be found while Scavenging, but have the same drop rate as any other egg. Chest are the main way you will be finding them. GET AND KEEP YOUR CLAN ENERGY ABOVE 80%[/b][/size] This is very important. Not having your energy full means less gathering turns and dragons that can't battle. If you are not there, do everything you can to get your dragons above 80% asap. Coli is the best way to get chest, but those extra 5 turns means more chances at chest. Around the end of November during turkey time Staff has usually been nice and fed everyone's dragons for them. From there that gives you 3 days to build up food stores enough to keep your dragons fed. Just do everything you can to keep your energy up. [size=4][b]2. GET A COLISEUM TEAM READY:[/b][/size] Coliseum really is a big part of the game and majorly moves things along with NotN. You [b]DO NOT[/b] have to have a team of all level 25 (though makes things easier I will not lie). You can get by just fine with a team that are level 7-15 at the beginning. In fact NotN is a great time to level a lower level team while farming for chest/Swipp items. Begin with a level 7 team and start farming Woodland Paths and Scorched Forest. Both are Great venues and have been some of my main venue that I farmed every year (more on this later). Frigidfin Expedition comes out a week or so before NotN. Utilize all that extra XP gain. Its a perfect time to train your dragons and stock up on sea food to use/sell. All over the forums, both general and in-flight, you can find services to level your dragons or even renting out level 25. If you are having trouble doing it on your own, really just ask; this is one of the nicest communities you will find and so many are willing to help. If totally shy about forums and asking in general seriously just pm me and I can help you out, takes me around 10 minutes or less to level one to 7. [size=4][b]3. GET YOUR BREWING LEVEL TO 12[/b][/size] The highest recipe they used last year was level 11 so it's a good goal to set before things start up. Some of the best ways to do this is just keeping your transmuting going at all times. While awake and able, set an alarm every 30 minutes or so and change over what you are melting down. While asleep or out and about, brew for one of the longer things like Glass Beakers and Sizzling Phosphorus ones that will give more then 1 xp/min. The only reason I say melt things down then constantly brewing something is because of my next preparation point. [size=4][b]4. STOCK PILE BREWING MATERIALS[/b][/size] Biggest ones I personally would recommend would be red ooze, red goo, red sludge, silver muck, and gold muck. Atleast 28 of each, this will give you the ability to make 2 of the chest x2 a day for the whole time frame. The chest x1 takes yellow ooze, goo, and sludge with copper and some mimic powder another good recipe to work with. Generally I find having 5-15 of each type of brewed materials (like Sizzling Phosphorus, Glass Beaker, ect) and 20-30 of the regular base materials is a safe bet. In order to make one of each NotN item from past years (not counting strange chest) from Baldwin you would need: [item=green ooze] x 16, [item=green goo] x 17, [item=green sludge] x 16, [item=yellow ooze] x 4, [item=yellow goo] x 6, [item=yellow sludge] x 9, [item=orange ooze] x 7, [item=orange goo] x 14, [item=orange sludge] x 10, [item=red ooze] x 3, [item=red goo] x 3, [item=red sludge] x 3, [item=purple ooze] x 1, [item=purple goo] x 7, [item=purple sludge] x 2, [item=black slime] x 5, [item=white slime] x 8, [item=grey slime] x 22, [item=gold muck] x 4, [item=silver muck] x 4, [item=copper muck] x 5, [item=sizzling phosphorus] x 1, [item=coarse alchemical Reduction] x 2, [item=glass beaker] x 9, [item=weathered Grimoire]x5, [item=cuckoo] x 10, [item=Chameleon] x 10, [item=multi-lens magnifier] x 5, [item=crystal ball] x5, [item=nocturne puppet] x 5, [item=mirror] x 5, [item=hourglass] x 5, [item=leporidae guise] x5, [item=flying gurnard] x5, [item=night flame] x 5, [item= strange chest] x 3 The total amount of time to brew all these would be 151 hours and 40 minutes and 97,000 treasure. That still leaves 184 1/3 hours left to brew whatever else you would like. If you take away about 40 hours for brew any new thing, that leaves 144 1/3 hours left for chest (or duplicates). 144 hrs is just about 6 days, in that time you can brew 5 almost 6 of the x2 strange chest recipes a day. This will give you 30-36 strange chests as well as 1 copy of everything NotN brewed from Baldwin. Though you would want to add in atleast 20,000 treasure for new things and up to 192kt if brewing extra chest. [size=4][b]5. LAIR CLEAN OUT[/B][/size] The last couple weeks before NotN I generally clear out lair space. Whether for space for eggs I hatch or for fodder to level while coli grinding. Extra lair space is good to have if able. With the dom battles always going on this time of year its a great time to clear out some lair space while making money/ get into raffles. Right now Light and Fire are looking to conquest push and Lightning is profit pushing the week before. Perfect time to clear out space and let your babies go on a new adventure. [size=4][b]6. MAKING MONEY[/B][/size] Generally just try and make money from fairgrounds(love you G&G) , AH, exalting, tomo questions, trades, and the usual money making areas. All for the fun stuff that comes out, not having to spend every waking minute in the coli, or just for that project you are currently working on. The past couple years strange chest have been selling for around 25kt, bottoming out arond 15kt with first day height of 35kt. It all depends on when you buy things and what the new items are that year. If saving up base your amount on the number of chest you want to have. I have stats in this guide to give you a good idea of how many chest you will need if looking for a certain amount of eggs or such. My recommendation would be to try and save up so could straight buy that many. For instance if I want 100 chest I would save 2500kt / 2500 gems to buy. That said I know I will not be buying them all, of course, but this allows me freedom if something happened or wanted time away I could always hop on buy a few to meet my daily quota for the day and not have to worry about later. Plus is if you did work hard and got a good amount of chest or items other ways you will have all that extra treasure for other things. Apparel from the treasure market run 9,000t-20,000t a piece (bundles are available and will cut some cost they are ~98,000t each), gem is 90-150 gems with bundles as ~967. Vistas are 600 gems and 250,000t. So if looking to buy those things can sort of guesstimate what it might be for those. However [b]You can have a very full and happy NotN without spending a dime so its really up to you on how you want to play this one.[/b] You can just let what you get from Fairground and coli-ing decide what you can buy or prepare ahead of time if you want those colors or vistas. [size=4][b]7. Realize The Odds [/B][/size] This is more of a mental step then anything, as well as help you calculate how many chest you might be gunning for to open. Through the hype and excitement from all those that have participated in the past you need to prepare yourself for what the drops really are. If you have the mindset of this will be easy, everyone talks of how they got so many of this or that, you have the possibility of being really disappointed. From my personal chest openings I generally don't expect more than 8 eggs for every 100 chest I open, it's under what the stats are showing, but luck is not always on my side lol. So don't be surprised in having to open over 1,000 chest to get those 100 eggs people like to gun for. Also truly don't expect to get 15+ chest in an hour of grinding, in fact in most venues your lucky to get 10 in an hour (depending on the year). See the drop rates and also the stats the dragons have for those drop rates. A lot of that comes into play when finding chest. I will be going into more about stating your dragon and such later. Every year the drop rates change and where is best to farm changes as well. There is a huge data collection that happens at the beginning every year so keep an eye out for the thread to know how things are looking this year. Right now, most of all please, please, please be realistic in your goals. Make them, have them, just be realistic with them. Try for the impossible, but allow yourself to be ok if the impossible doesn’t fully pan out. [size=4][b]7. Dates to Start Things By[/B][/size] This is a just for fun step if into mass openings, or need a set day for things. To begin the most important thing to remember is that just like any other festival NotN does not start until 0600 FR time. If you are in a different time zone, early/late riser, whatever make sure not to use your gathering turns and plan baldwin accordingly to start things up at that time. You need your clan energy above 80% 4 days before start of NotN to have all gathering turns when NotN starts (as long as you continue to keep the energy above 80% for the full 4 days). For the 2021 year that would be by Dec 15th assuming the start of NotN is the 19th (will change if find date is different). I will also put this in the Survival area, but want it here as well. Strange chest do not disappear right at the end of NotN. Staff have always given us 2-4 days to open any chest we might still have. So if you are out and about, up to late and missed the last day, or wanted to squeeze in that last brew, remember you still have time to open chest or grab a few more off the AH before they disappear. As a fun thing, I did test leaving a chest brewing past the disappear date. It still changed to dust while in the pot so make sure you get chest from Baldwin before the disappear time if want to open them. If you are into mass chest openings on days like Christmas, New Years, FR anniversary, etc. know that it takes 85 days to bond with a familiar from start to end. This will give you 3 rusted chest, 2 iron chest, and 1 gilded chest for each familiar you bond with. In order to have these chest by Dec 25th you need to have started by Oct 1st. For a new years opening you would need to start by Oct 8th. For other dates just take the date and minus 86 days (I like to give an extra day for just incase) to know your start date. Patience in coli, brewing, and watching prices are all your best friend. As for attitude constant this sucks, everything hates me, I can't do this, it's so hard type attitudes don't work and make everything miserable. Change it, if frustrated / on a bad streak take a breath, walk away, find something else to do for a bit. Go to a different game or the forums. Ask for help and be willing to take suggestions and learn. Venting is ok, and can be a relief, but voice it and then let it go. [size=4][b]2. READ EVERYTHING IN OFFICIAL POST AND ANNOUNCEMENTS[/b][/size] You find out wonderful little tidbits when you take the time to actually read everything they put out. Plus there are always clarification in the replies to the original post. Things like sometimes not all NotN mobs were active right away and some were slowly added into different venues of the coli over the first couple hours. They first announced when more brewing and Swipp trades opened in the Site Status announcements area. That right side column on the main page right under your profile info holds very important information you want to know. Check the official post multiple times during the first few days to catch any extra replies from staff members(use the nice skip to staff reply button). The Site Status also will give reminders for when Chest will turn to dust, so if questioning look there or in the announcement. [size=4][b]3. More Than Just Strange Chest[/b][/size] There are many different ways in order to get NotN apparel, vistas, and familiars. Not everything comes from strange chest. Certain vistas, some familiars and different colors of apparel are only in the market places, Baldwin, or Swipp. Make sure you look in the market place as well as the sections on Baldwin and Swipp to see what is available in those. I also have a section in this guide showing what is in which area to hopefully make it a little easier. As for those things that come only from strange chest there are many, many ways to get Strange chest. I will be going over ways for both those that are able to spend time in the Coliseum, and those that can't. Each in their own sections following this one. [size=4][b]5. Check Date When Chest Turn to Dust[/b][/size] Strange Chest do not turn to dust right at the end mark of the festival. Staff has been nice and given us extra time (2-4 days) after festival ends to open them. If for some reason you are gone and just getting back or you were planning on getting that last minute AH grab, but woke up late you can still grab some. Sometimes you might find a deal for those wanting to unload their stock or get gouged from last minute price raise so be careful there. That being said once the turn to dust time has past no matter where the chest are (Baldwin pot, AH, vault, hoard) they will turn to dust. So get them open before that time has hit. Be sure to open all of them before the event ends![/b][/size][/center][/quote] [size=4][b]5. FIND A BUDDY[/b][/size] If you are feeling worn out and don't know why you are doing things, find a buddy. Someone to challenge you, someone lift you up and be excited with. Life is always better with someone to share both the good and the bad. It can be an irl buddy or an in-game buddy, doesn't matter. Things are more fun when you can share with another[emoji=tundra love size=1] [size=4][b]6. Last but not Least HAVE FUN[/b][/size] The biggest thing is just to have fun. Join in with the forums, your flights, the people around you. This is a 2 week event, its the holiday season. Have fun do what you can and be ok with it all. [LIST=1] [*] Your first best friend is Baldwin there are 2 very nice recipes that you can have going continually at lvl 2 and lvl 3. Lvl 3 requires no mimic dust all just Baldwin ingredients only. This is where the preparation of leveling and stock piling of Baldwin stuff is for. So if low on food, gather in food its all good. Once again this is why its so important to keep your clan energy above 80%, you miss alot when you don't have those extra 5 gathering turns. Past few years we have been given 15 extra gathering turns the first day so definitely make sure you are ready beforehand. [*] Item trade forum can be your best friend. Many people start trading their other stuff for chest, or will trade chest for stuff they are looking for. There is also usually a item for item trade thread too. Just keep looking and maybe you will find something you can trade. Post your own trading thread, especially if have rare or retired things to sale. Besides the coli this has been the way of getting chest each year fully recommend giving it a try. [*]Along with trading for chest you could trade coli grinders for their time. You will need to be careful in what you request and types of teams you commission. Many do by time lengths when putting up a post. However if you are posting you could say I will pay you this much for a certain amount of battles. That way you can reach teams that might not have the optimal stats/battle stones but would still like to provide the service for you. To see how many battles/min are generally expected you can use the stat section of this guide or Maki's Coliseum guide that is up every festival time and can be found in the guide section of the forums. Take the battles/per minute number for the area you want and multiply by the amount of time you are looking to commission (30 minutes and 60 minutes are the most popular). [*]So many of you are talented artist and writers, and I know there are players looking for your services. Many would be willing to exchange their items from chest or chest themselves for those services. Be willing to put your talents out there and both can benefit. [LIST=1] [*] Very first and most important thing is that you get a team together. Yes a reiteration of Preparation step 2, but just that important. Whichever guide you follow, or go by the seat of your pants get a team together. Many flights offer rentals, free training to lvl 7, and other things to give you a boost if you don't have a team. The forums are your friend go look. Plus there is the bonus of as you train your team you will be getting chest and swipp mats to trade for chest. [*]To optimize things try having the right stones and stats that work best for you and your play style. Eliminates are at their all time low from the past couple years thanks to Galore. Get atleast one if not more for your team. It will pay for itself faster than you know. The numbers from Mali's coliseum guide are based off the * 133 STR / 40 QCK x3, Golem Workshop: 129 INT + 133 STR x2 builds. If you are expecting the amount of chest/hr stated in that guide your build better be similar. Big thing is being able to one hit enemies in all lower venues and rally + eliminate the highest venues. The longer you take to battle the less chest you will get. If there is no way you can get an Eliminate for whatever reason I would recommend staying in the lower venues for now where you can stat your dragons so they can kill the most amount with one hit as possible. If you do end up venturing into higher ones with lower stats/ no Eliminate just don't expect the same amount of chest/hr as those that have optimized their team for the venue. [*] Set up your stones on your team to be optimized for your fingers. If you are using keyboard control muscle memory is huge. Set your stones that are where your fingers naturally lie on the keyboard. Personally I have Scratch on top spot with Shred, Eliminate, Rally, and Sap on the following row, in that order. This allows me to breeze through one hit scratches and not to bad of a feel for eliminates. I have talked to others that like their eliminate in the first slot, and see that as also a very nice fit too. I don't suggest having eliminate or scratch on the last 2 slots of second row since that will put it farther away from enemy letters on keyboard controls. The big thing is your muscle memory. It's why I didn't move my stone to the other way when keyboard controls came out. I have built up muscle memory on my tablet for so long it would be detrimental to change it. Set your stones how you like, that will be a natural flow for you, then build that muscle memory. [*] Don't coli just for chest. This will lead to nothing but frustration. Just like trying to get that special apparel from one place or certain battle stone, you are just begging to be disappointed and feel everything is a waste. Find a challenge that you always wanted to try. There is a Coliseum Challenge section in this post if looking for ideas of something to try. Look for something other then chest like missing familiars, mats for swipp, or thing s need for the hibernation den. Stay in a certain area for a certain amount of time or battles. I like to do 100 battles per venue to get an idea how my team does per area. [*] Utilize your time wisely. Coli to match Swipp. Swipp will give out trades for strange chest, and a productive way to coli is fight in the areas that give the mats for the current swipp trade. At the end of the 2 hours right before the trade expires(generally I give myself 5 minutes) turn in everything you have for even more chest. It will happen just accept the fact and either move to a different place, different part of the game, or battle through till the tide changes. [*]Don't stay in the same place forever. If having bad luck in one area move to a different one. [*][b]The low venues are your best friends[/b]. Woodland Path, Scorched Forest, Blooming Grove, all those in that range are the best to farm. The reason is because you go through the mobs so fast. The higher venues may have better drop rate but they take too long to kill the mobs. By the time you finish your first at those high levels, I can go through three to four in the lower ones. It’s just better overall. [*] Do something while coli-ing. I like to turn on shows or listen to audio books. Others like podcast or other youtube shows. [*] [b]REMEMBER to take BREAKS.[/b] Take a breather, remember to eat, and give your wrist a rest. This is a two week long event, its a marathon not a sprint. [*] If possible move to mobile, mainly a tablet of some sort. You can use a drawing tablet or regular tablet both will work. The reason I suggest this is that you can use a pencil or fingers to ease the strain on your wrist. It's also can be faster in terms of how much you have to move to click on things. [*] If only have a computer you can change the controls to keyboard controls. In the coliseum window while fighting or choosing a venue you will see a button that looks like a controller next to the button of a gear(that’s your settings button).
